Tech. Description

Dolman Sleeve Asymmetrical Blouse with Button Pocket

A women's boxy, cropped top in knit fabric, with dolman sleeves cut in one with the body, a neckband with a raw upper edge, an asymmetric hem cut away in a curve at one side, and a triangular pocket trimmed with three buttons.

When To Wear

  • In spring and summer with high-waisted trousers, jeans or skirts.
  • Over a longer fitted top or slip dress for a layered look.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Wide and boxy, cropped.

Length: Cropped, above the waist on the shorter side.

Neckline: Round neck finished with a knit band stitched into a ring, slightly stretched onto the neckline; the band seam sits at the left shoulder and its upper edge is left raw.

Sleeves: Dolman sleeves cut in one with the front and back, to about the elbow, with turned and topstitched hems.

Front: One piece cut on the fold, no opening; the top is pulled on over the head.

Pockets: One pocket with a vertical and a slanted edge. Its lower edge is caught into the hem, then the pocket is folded up and topstitched along the markings so it overhangs. Three buttons are sewn on along the slanted edge.

Back: One piece cut on the fold.

Finishing: Hems turned and topstitched with a twin needle to keep the stretch.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Three main pieces, straight seams, a neckband and a single applied pocket; no closures.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with low to medium stretch, of natural or blended fibres (jersey).

Additional Supplies

  • 3 buttons
  • Twin needle

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 1 piece on fold
  • Front – 1 piece on fold
  • Pocket – 1 piece
  • Neckline trim strip – 1 piece

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the back and front. Serge the seams and press them towards the back.
  2. Stitch the neckline trim strip into a loop. Serge the seam and press. Slightly stretching, attach the trim strip to the neckline, aligning the notches. The trim strip seam is located at the left shoulder seam. The upper edge of the trim strip remains unfinished.
  3. Serge the pocket edges and fold under the vertical and bias edges of the pocket.
  4. Serge the bottom edge of the blouson. Align the bottom edge of the pocket with the bottom edge of the front and secure. Fold under and topstitch the bottom edge of the blouson together with the pocket. Fold back the pocket and topstitch it according to the markings, creating an overlap. Sew on buttons.
  5. Serge the bottom edge of the sleeve, fold under and topstitch.
