Tech. Description

Asymmetrical Two-Tone Shawl Collar Jacket

A women's hip-length jacket cut from one double-faced faux sheepskin, using both of its faces: smooth suede on the upper body and sleeves, short pile on the large collar, the lower body and the cuffs. Asymmetric wrap front with one button, raw cut edges bound with leather tape, no lining.

When To Wear

  • Outdoors in cool autumn and spring weather.
  • Over fine knits, shirts and dresses, with trousers, jeans or a straight skirt.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted upper body shaped by princess seams, joined to a lower band at the waist.

Length: Hip length; the right front overlaps with a rounded, curved edge.

Collar: Wide collar and lapels in the pile face, with a strip of leather tape topstitched along the lapel from the collar end to the roll line.

Closure: Asymmetric wrap: one buttonhole on the right front and one button on the left, at the waist seam.

Sleeves: One-piece set-in sleeves with deep pile cuffs; the cuff edge is bound, the ends overlap and the cuff is lapped onto the sleeve.

Back: Centre back seam and princess seams on the upper back; one-piece pile lower back.

Finishing: Leather tape stitched over the princess seams and over the lapped waist seam; front edges, lapels, collar seam and hem bound with leather tape in one continuous run, so no edge is hemmed.

Level Of Difficulty

Advanced. Sewing double-faced sheepskin with lapped and zigzag seams, glued seam allowances, binding all edges with leather tape in one pass.

Fabric Recommendations

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the princess seams of the upper front and back. Press seam allowances open. On the right side, lay a piece of leather trim strip over the princess seams and topstitch, catching the seam allowances in the stitch.
  2. On the lapel, from the fur side, mark the decorative line from the notch indicating the end of the collar attachment to the lapel fold line. Topstitch a leather trim strip along the marked line.
  3. Stitch the center back seam. Press seam allowances open.
  4. Stitch the side seams of the upper jacket. Press seam allowances open.
  5. Stitch the side seams of the lower jacket, leaving a 5 cm section of the left side seam unstitched. Press seam allowances open and glue them down.
  6. Join the upper and lower parts of the jacket with an overlay seam. Lay a piece of leather trim strip over the seam and topstitch.
  7. Stitch the shoulder seams of the jacket. Press seam allowances open.
  8. Stitch the sleeve seam. Trim seam allowances close to the stitching.
  9. Bind the cuff edge with trim strip. Align the ends of the cuff with the marks and stitch the cuff into a loop. Attach the cuff to the sleeve with an overlay seam.
  10. Set the sleeves into the armholes according to the notches.
  11. Bind the raw edges of the collar.
  12. Fold the collar with the garment, suede sides inward. Attach the collar to the garment with a zigzag stitch. Without folding back the collar, bind the edges with leather trim strip, starting from the lower left side seam, then the left front edge, lapel, collar attachment seam, right lapel and front edge, lower back edge, ending at the left side seam. Stitch the unstitched section of the left side seam. Glue down the seam allowances.
  13. On the right front, make a buttonhole; on the left, sew on a button.
