Tech. Description

Midi Tiered Flounce Skirt

A midi-length women's skirt with a smooth front and back hip yoke and three gathered tiers below it. The waist is finished with interfaced facings instead of a waistband, and the skirt closes with a concealed zip in the left side seam.

When To Wear

  • Summer days and holidays, with a fitted top, T-shirt or tucked-in blouse.
  • Spring and autumn with a knitted top, boots and a light jacket.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted over the hips, widening through the tiers.

Length: Midi.

Waist: No waistband. Front and back facings are interfaced, joined at the side, understitched 0.2 cm from the seam and turned to the inside.

Front: One-piece front yoke without darts.

Back: One-piece back yoke shaped with two darts.

Closure: Concealed zip in the left side seam of the yoke.

Skirt: Three tiers (upper, middle and lower flounce), each cut as one piece joined with a single seam, gathered on its upper edge and stitched to the piece above.

Finishing: Tier seams pressed upwards and overlocked; 2 cm hem turned up and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Straight tier seams with even gathering, two darts, a faced waist and a concealed zip; the gathering of long edges is the most time-consuming part.

Fabric Recommendations

Fine silky fabrics of natural or blended fibres.
