Tech. Description

Knit Wrap Top With Sleeves

A close-fitting, hip-length women's top in stretch knit with long set-in sleeves and a V-neckline formed by two crossing upper fronts. The upper fronts are looped through each other at the centre front into a twist and sewn to a separate lower front that rises as a band under the bust.

When To Wear

  • In autumn and winter with jeans, trousers or a skirt.
  • Under an open jacket or cardigan for work.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting, shaped at the waist, ending at the hip.

Neckline: Deep V-neck front, round neck at the back; the edge is overlocked, turned to the wrong side and topstitched.

Front: Two upper fronts and one lower front. The curved edges of the left upper front are stitched to the lower front, the right upper front is threaded through the loop and stitched the same way, which forms the twist at the centre. A short straight section of the lower front and upper front edges is turned and topstitched; the lower edge of each upper front is folded at the notch and secured to the lower front at the side.

Sleeves: Long, one-piece set-in sleeves.

Back: One piece with no centre back seam.

Finishing: Hem and sleeve hems overlocked, turned up and topstitched; a twin needle keeps the hems stretchy.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. The twisted front has to be assembled in the right order; the rest is standard knit sewing with a stretch stitch and twin-needle hems.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium to high stretch, from natural or blended fibres. Seams are sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch; overlocked allowances are trimmed to 0.6–0.8 cm.

Additional Supplies

  • None besides fabric and thread.

Cutting Plan

  • From main fabric:
  • 1. Back – 1 piece
  • 2. Upper front – 2 pieces
  • 3. Lower front – 1 piece
  • 4. Sleeve – 2 pieces
