A women's close-fitting hip-length top for knit fabric, with a wide boat neckline, set-in sleeves shown in three lengths and twin-needle hems. Three pieces only: front, back and sleeve. When To Wear

  • Short sleeves in summer, with skirts, shorts or trousers.
  • Three-quarter and long sleeves in spring and autumn, on their own or under a cardigan or jacket.
  • Everyday wear, at home, at work or when travelling.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close to the body, following the figure through the side seams.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Neckline: Wide, shallow boat neckline running from shoulder to shoulder. The neckline edges are overlocked first, and the shoulder seams are sewn only up to a notch at the neck.

Sleeves: One-piece set-in sleeves, shown short, three-quarter and long.

Front: One piece, no seams or darts.

Back: One piece.

Finishing: Seams sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch, overlocked and trimmed to 0.6–0.8 cm; side seams pressed towards the back. Hem and sleeve hems turned to the wrong side and topstitched with a twin needle.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Three pieces, straight seams, set-in sleeves matched at the notches and twin-needle hems in knit fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium to high stretch, made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Twin needle for topstitching the hems

Cutting Plan

  • Back – 1 piece
  • Front – 1 piece
  • Sleeve – 2 pieces

Tip: Pieces cut from knit fabrics are sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.6 – 0.8 cm. Hem allowances are topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity.
