Pattern #5651
Tech. Description

Cotton Stretch Jersey Sleeveless Scoop Neck Side Drawstring Top

Introducing a versatile women's sewing pattern for a sleeveless knit top, featuring a scoop neckline and adjustable side drawstrings that create flattering ruching and an adaptable silhouette.

When To Wear

This comfortable and stylish top is perfect for various casual to smart-casual settings, offering a chic look for:

  • Everyday Casual Wear: Ideal for daily comfort with jeans, shorts, or skirts.
  • Vacation & Resort Outfits: a light & airy choice for warm weather, easily dressed up or down.
  • Layering: a foundational piece for layering under jackets or cardigans when the weather is cooler.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a semi-fitted body that can be cinched with adjustable side drawstrings for a customized, flattering ruching effect.

Neckline: a classic scoop neckline, turned and topstitched for a comfortable, universally flattering opening.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with slightly extended shoulders and neatly finished armholes, providing ease of movement & breathability.

Hem: a gently curved, topstitched bottom hem; gathering the side drawstrings lifts the sides for a draped look.

Details: a channel formed by the topstitched side seam allowances holds a decorative drawstring on each side, tied at the hem for custom gathering and styling.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Involves basic garment construction techniques and working with knit fabrics, including simple seams, hemming, and creating a drawstring casing.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose knit fabrics with good stretch and drape for optimal comfort and the desired ruched effect:

  • Knit fabrics of medium or high stretch
  • Knits made from natural or blended fibers, such as cotton jersey

Additional Supplies

  • Decorative ribbon for the drawstrings

Cutting Plan

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 1 piece
  • Front – 1 piece

Tip: Sew knit pieces with a stretch stitch or a narrow zigzag. When overlocking, trim the seam allowances to 0.6–0.8 cm. Topstitch the hem allowances with a twin needle to keep them stretchy.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the shoulder seams of the back and front. Serge the seams and press towards the back.
  2. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the neckline edge. Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
  3. Serge the side edges. Stitch the side seams and press open. Topstitch the seam allowances 1 cm from the seam to form a channel. Thread the drawstring through the channel and secure it at the armhole edge.
  4. Serge the armhole edge. Fold to the wrong side and topstitch.
