Tech. Description

Cotton Stretch Jersey Stand Collar Scoop Neck Top with Sleeve Options

A women's hip-length top for knit fabric with a scoop front neckline and a separate tube collar: a double stand collar sewn into a ring and attached only to the back neckline, so it stands around the neck above the open scoop. Set-in sleeves in three lengths. The photos show one sleeve length. The pattern has one full-length sleeve; for a short or three-quarter sleeve, shorten it to the length you want.

When To Wear

  • In autumn and spring with jeans, trousers or skirts.
  • Short sleeves in summer; long sleeves under a jacket in cooler weather.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-fitted, following the body through the side seams.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Neckline: Scoop neckline at the front, its edge turned to the wrong side and topstitched.

Collar: One piece sewn into a ring, folded double and pressed, then stitched to the back neckline only. The collar seam sits at the left shoulder seam, and the free front part stands clear of the scoop. The ring must be wide enough to pass over the head.

Sleeves: One-piece set-in sleeves; choose short, three-quarter or long.

Front: One piece, no darts or seams.

Back: One piece.

Finishing: Seams sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch, overlocked and trimmed to 0.6–0.8 cm. Hem and sleeve hems turned under and topstitched with a twin needle.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Five pieces and simple knit seams; the one unusual step is attaching the collar ring to the back neckline only.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium to high stretch, made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Twin needle for topstitching the hems and front neckline

Cutting Plan

  • 1. Back – 1 piece
  • 2. Front – 1 piece
  • 3. Sleeve – 2 pieces
  • 4. Collar – 1 piece

Attention! Before starting work, check that the head fits through the collar sewn into a ring.

Sewing Instructions

  1. 1. Serge the neckline edge of the front piece, fold to the wrong side, press and topstitch. Leave the neckline edge of the back piece unfinished.
  2. 2. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the back and front pieces. Serge the seams and press towards the back.
  3. 3. Stitch the sleeve seams. Serge the seams and press.
  4. 4. Set the sleeves into the armholes, matching notches. Serge the seams and press.
  5. 5. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the bottom edge of the sleeves. Fold to the wrong side, press and topstitch.
  6. 6. Stitch the collar into a ring. Turn the collar right side out and press. Attach the outer side of the collar to the back neckline, matching notches. The collar seam is located at the left shoulder seam. Fold the collar allowances inwards and stitch them together.
