Tech. Description

Sleeveless Top with Shoulder Width Options

A women's close-fitting sleeveless knit top with a round crew neckline, cut from a front and a back only. The drawing shows three shoulder widths: narrow cut-in armholes, a medium shoulder and a wide shoulder that reaches past the shoulder point.

When To Wear

  • Summer wear with shorts, skirts or trousers.
  • Under jackets, blazers and cardigans as a base layer.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting, with side seams curving in slightly at the waist.

Length: Hip length, with a slightly curved hem.

Neckline: High round neck, the edge overlocked, turned to the wrong side and topstitched.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; armholes overlocked, turned and topstitched. Three shoulder widths are drawn.

Back: One piece, no centre back seam.

Finishing: Shoulder and side seams sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch, overlocked and pressed towards the back; all edges topstitched with a twin needle.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Two pattern pieces, four seams and turned, topstitched edges; the only skill needed is sewing stretch fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium or high stretch, made of natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Twin needle for the neckline, armholes and hem

Cutting Plan

  • From main fabric:
  • Back – 1 piece
  • Front – 1 piece

Tip: Sew knit pieces with a stretch stitch or a narrow zigzag. When overlocking, trim the seam allowances to 0.6–0.8 cm. Topstitch the hem allowances with a twin needle to keep them stretchy.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the back and front. Serge the seams and press them towards the back.
  2. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, the neckline edge, and the armhole edges. Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
