Cami Diagonal Panel Slim Column Dress

A women's long, straight slip dress on narrow straps, with a straight-across front neckline and an S-curved decorative inset that runs diagonally across the front from the top edge to the side seam. Shaped with bust darts at the front and long darts at the back, with a concealed zip in the centre back seam.

When To Wear

• Evening events, parties and summer dinners.
• With heeled sandals; with a cropped jacket or shirt over it in the daytime.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Slim, straight column, close to the body through the bust, waist and hips.

Length: Long; hem overlocked, turned up and topstitched 1.5 cm from the edge.

Neckline: Straight across at the front; the back neckline runs straight across lower down, at underarm level. Neckline and armhole edges are overlocked, turned to the wrong side and topstitched, without facings.

Straps: Narrow self-fabric straps, folded and stitched 0.5 cm from the fold, sewn to the front neckline; their length is set at a fitting before the back ends are sewn on.

Front: Cut in three parts: upper front, a curved decorative inset and lower front. The inset starts at the top edge near one strap and curves across the body to the opposite side seam; bust darts are pressed downwards.

Back: Cut in two with a centre back seam and long vertical darts.

Closure: Concealed zip in the upper part of the centre back seam.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Joining a narrow S-curved inset with two opposing curved seams, darts, a concealed zip, narrow turned and topstitched edges, and strap length set at a fitting.

Fabric Recommendations

Medium-weight woven dress fabrics with some body: crepe, satin, cotton sateen. The inset is shown shaded on the drawing and can be cut from a contrasting fabric of similar weight.
