Tech. Description

Tiered Ruffle Sleeve Dress

A women's knee-length shift dress made in two layers, main fabric and chiffon, joined at the neckline, with short flutter sleeves of three chiffon tiers set in as one. The front neckline is bound with bias binding that continues up as narrow straps.

When To Wear

  • Summer parties, daytime celebrations and holidays.
  • With sandals or low heels; with a light cardigan on cooler evenings.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Shift shape, close at the bust and widening slightly towards the hem; shaped with bust darts at the front and waist darts at the front and back.

Length: About knee length; both layers overlocked, turned up and topstitched 1.5 cm from the edge, with the under layer showing slightly below the outer one on the drawing.

Neckline: Wide neckline; the two layers are stitched together along the front and back neckline and understitched 0.2 cm from the seam. Between the notches at the front, the edge is bound with bias binding folded in half, which is left long at both ends as straps; their length is set at a fitting and the ends are sewn to the back.

Sleeves: Short set-in flutter sleeves of three chiffon layers of graduated length, each edged with a rolled hem, nested and basted together at the cap 0.5 cm from the edge.

Front: Centre front seam in both layers.

Back: Centre back seam in both layers.

Closure: Concealed zip in the upper part of the centre back seam of the outer layer; the under layer is turned under and stitched to the zip allowances.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Sewing chiffon, two complete dress layers joined at the neckline, rolled hems on three sleeve tiers set in as one, a concealed zip and bias-binding straps fitted on the wearer.
