Tech. Description

Halterneck Gathered Crop Top

A women's cropped halterneck top in knit fabric, gathered at the neckline on a tie that runs through a casing and ties behind the neck. The back is cut low and closes at the lower edge with three buttons; the top is made of two layers stitched together and turned.

When To Wear

  • In summer, with high-waisted skirts, shorts or trousers.
  • On holiday and for warm evenings, alone or under an open shirt.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Slightly loose, falling straight from the gathered neckline.

Length: Cropped, ending around the waist.

Neckline: Halter neck with a stitched casing; a self-fabric tie is threaded through it and tied at the back of the neck.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; the armholes are faced by the second layer, with an opening left for the tie.

Back: Deep scooped back neckline, closing at the lower edge with three buttons and buttonholes.

Finishing: Armholes, back neckline, closure edges and hem topstitched. For knit, seams are sewn with a narrow zigzag or stretch stitch, and the hem is overlocked and stitched with a twin needle.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Two layers stitched and turned, a tie casing, topstitching on knit, three buttonholes.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric: cotton or viscose jersey.

Additional Supplies

  • 3 buttons

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Top – 2 pieces
  • Tie – 1 piece

Tip: To ensure the fabric remains stretchy in the areas of finished seams, stitch the cut pieces with a narrow zigzag or special stretch stitch. To keep the bottom edge stretchy, the hem should be serged with an overlock stitch, and then stitched using a twin needle. The same applies to finishing other edges of the garment that should not lose elasticity. These recommendations do not apply to industrial production.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Press the bottom edge of both Top pieces 1 cm to the wrong side.
  2. Fold the tie in half lengthwise, right sides together, stitch, turn right side out, and topstitch the ends.
  3. Place the two Top pieces right sides together and stitch along the neckline.
  4. Stitch the armholes, leaving an opening for the tie.
  5. Stitch the low back neckline and the closure edges on the back of the top.
  6. Turn the top right side out.
  7. Stitch along the neckline to form a casing.
  8. Thread the Tie through the neckline casing.
  9. Topstitch along the armholes, the low back neckline and the closure edges.
  10. Topstitch along the bottom of the top.
  11. Make three buttonholes and sew on three buttons.
