Tech. Description

Shoulder-Tie Smocked Neck Blouse

A women's short sleeveless blouse with a high stand collar gathered on several rows of elastic, a matching elasticated band at the hem and ties sewn into the shoulder seams. Can be made in woven or knit fabric.

When To Wear

  • In summer with high-waisted trousers, skirts or shorts.
  • For everyday wear; the ties at the shoulders are tied in bows.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose, straight bodice gathered at the neck and at the hem by elastic.

Length: Short, finished with an elasticated hem band.

Collar: High stand collar cut in front and back parts, each with its own casing; elastic runs through stitched channels, leaving a gathered, smocked look. Openings for the elastic are left in the left side seam of the casing.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; armhole edges overlocked, turned under and topstitched.

Front: One piece, with no closure.

Back: One piece, matching the front.

Waist: A separate casing band on the front and back lower edges, with stitched channels for elastic.

Finishing: Four ties, stitched 0.7 cm from the fold, set into the shoulder seams; shoulder seams topstitched 1 cm on both sides. For knit, seams are sewn with a narrow zigzag or stretch stitch.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Straight seams, stitched elastic channels and narrow ties; no closures, sleeves or lining.

Fabric Recommendations

Cotton, viscose or knit fabrics.

Additional Supplies

  • Elastic tape

Cutter's Must

  • Front – 1 piece
  • Front Casing – 1 piece
  • Back – 1 piece
  • Back Casing – 1 piece
  • Front Stand Collar – 1 piece
  • Back Stand Collar – 1 piece
  • Casing for Back Stand Collar – 1 piece
  • Casing for Front Stand Collar – 1 piece
  • Tie – 4 pieces

Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm.

Tip: To ensure the material remains stretchy in the areas of finished seams, stitch the cut pieces with a narrow zigzag or special stretchy stitch. To keep the bottom edge stretchy, overlock the hem with an overlock stitch, then attach it using a twin needle. The same applies to finishing other edges of the garment that should not lose elasticity. These recommendations do not apply to industrial production.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Overlock the armhole edges of the Front and Back, fold the allowances under and topstitch.
  2. Turn under the ends of the Ties. Fold the Ties lengthwise and stitch 0.7 cm from the fold. Turn the Ties right side out and press. Sew the ends closed.
  3. Overlock the shoulder edges. Stitch the shoulder seams, inserting the Ties between the seam allowances. Topstitch on both sides of the shoulder seams, 1 cm from the seam.
  4. Stitch the Front Stand Collar to the Casing for Front Stand Collar, and the Back Stand Collar to the Casing for Back Stand Collar.
  5. Stitch the side edges of the collar pieces and their casings, leaving openings in the left side seam of the casing for the elastic. Turn the collar right side out and press.
  6. Stitch the channels for the elastic along the marked lines. Stitch the collar to the neckline.
  7. Thread the elastic through the channels and secure its ends.
  8. Stitch the Front Casing to the lower edge of the Front and the Back Casing to the lower edge of the Back.
  9. Stitch the side seams of the blouse and of the Front Casing and Back Casing, leaving openings in the left side seam of the casing for the elastic.
  10. Stitch the channels for the elastic along the marked lines.
  11. Thread the elastic through the channels and secure its ends.
