Leather Decorative Wave Panel Jacket

When To Wear

In spring and autumn as a light outer layer over tops, blouses and fine knitwear.
With straight trousers, jeans or a slim skirt; the front edges meet at the centre, so it can be worn open or fastened at the waist.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted at the waist with darts on the front and back.

Length: Hip length.

Collar: Stand collar cut in two layers, the inner layer topstitched in place.

Sleeves: One-piece set-in sleeves, eased at the cap, with a wide cuff sewn to the lower edge; the drawing shows decorative cross stitches on each cuff.

Front: Each front is made of four parts: a yoke, the main front, a wavy insert at the waist and a lower part. The wavy seams are lapped and topstitched. Edge-to-edge front finished with facings.

Closure: One button on the left front and a cord loop on the right front, at the waist.

Back: Built the same way as the front: back yoke, back, wavy insert and lower part, all joined with topstitched lapped seams.

Finishing: Optional decorative stitching along the front edges and darts; topstitched hem.

Sewing Instructions

Reinforce the facing and collar stand with fusible interfacing.
Stitch darts on the front and back.
Topstitch the yoke to the front, creating a decorative stitch.
Topstitch the front insert to the front, creating a decorative stitch.
Topstitch the front insert to the lower of the front, creating a decorative stitch.
Topstitch the yoke to the back, creating a decorative stitch.
Topstitch the back insert to the back, creating a decorative stitch.
Topstitch the back insert to the lower of the back, creating a decorative stitch.
Stitch shoulder seams.
Stitch side seams.
Face the lower collar stand with the upper collar stand.
Set the collar stand into the neckline. Topstitch the upper collar stand into the seam of the lower collar stand attachment.
Attach the cuff to the lower edge of the sleeve.
Stitch the seams on the sleeves.
Prepare a loop from cord.
Attach the loop to the right front.
Face the edges with facings.
Set in the sleeves, easing at the cap.
Sew buttons to the left front. If desired, decorative stitches can be added along the princess seams, edge of the front opening, and darts.
