Tech. Description

Wrap Front Pajama Romper with Ruffled Leg Openings

A women's one-piece pajama romper with a wrap-over V-neck bodice, contrast bands along the top edge, an elasticated waist casing and gathered ruffles along the high-cut leg openings. Wide fabric straps.

When To Wear

  • As summer sleepwear in light cotton batiste.
  • As loungewear at home on warm days.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Bodysuit-style romper: a loose, bloused bodice over a fitted brief section, gathered at the waist.

Neckline: V-neck formed by the right front lapped over the left; the fronts are basted together at the lower edge.

Front: Each upper front is cut in two parts, a centre panel and a side panel, joined by a vertical seam. The lower front is one piece cut on the fold.

Back: Straight upper edge; upper and lower back each cut in one piece on the fold.

Straps: Folded and stitched contrast straps, sewn to the front corners and fixed at the back after fitting to adjust the length.

Waist: The brief section is joined to the bodice and the seam allowance is topstitched down to form a casing for elastic cut to the waist measurement.

Legs: High-cut leg openings, overlocked, topstitched and finished with elastic; gathered contrast ruffles set between markings.

Finishing: Contrast facings turned to the right side along the top edge and edge-stitched at 0.1 cm, forming a visible band; three small snaps.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. A wrapped bodice, facings turned to the outside, gathered ruffles, elastic in the legs and a waist casing.

Fabric Recommendations

Lightweight fabrics of natural and blended fibres, such as cotton batiste; batiste in a contrast colour for the facings, ruffles and straps.

Additional Supplies

  • Contrast batiste for the facings, ruffles and straps
  • Elastic tape for the waist and leg openings
  • 3 small press-on snaps

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the upper center-front and side-front pieces together. Stitch the side seams of the front and back. Stitch the side seams of the facings.
  2. Place the right side of the facing against the wrong side of the upper garment and stitch. Turn the facing to the right side of the garment, turn under its raw edge, and topstitch close to the edge. Edge-stitch the upper edge at 0.1 cm.
  3. Overlap the right front over the left front, aligning the center-front lines, and baste the lower edges together.
  4. Stitch the side seams of the brief section. Press the straight edges of the ruffles to the wrong side, turn under, and topstitch. Gather the curved edges of the ruffles and baste them to the leg openings between the pattern markings.
  5. Turn the integrated facings of the lower sections to the wrong side, turn under, and press. Overlock the seam allowances of the leg openings, press them to the wrong side, and topstitch. Apply the elastic tape to the leg openings with a zigzag stitch, stretching it slightly as you sew so that the finished leg-opening edges lie smoothly against the body without visible gathering.
  6. Stitch the brief section to the upper section of the pajama romper. Press the seam allowance downwards and topstitch to form a casing. Thread elastic tape equal to the waist circumference through the casing.
  7. Fold each shoulder strap in half lengthwise with right sides together and stitch along the long edges. Turn the straps right side out, press, and edge-stitch. Sew the straps to the upper front corners. Try on the pajama romper, adjust the straps to the required length, and sew them to the back according to the pattern markings.
