When To Wear

  • In spring and summer, with blouses, knit tops and light jackets.
  • For the office and everyday wear.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A-line, the gores flaring evenly from the waist to the hem.

Skirt: Six gores; the front and back each have a centre panel and two side panels, joined at the side seams.

Waist: Straight waistband, interfaced and folded in half, with an underlap extension beyond the right edge of the zip; the inner edge is stitched in the ditch of the attachment seam.

Closure: Concealed zip in the left side seam, buttonhole and button on the waistband.

Finishing: Seam allowances overlocked together, except the left side seam, which is pressed open. Hem allowance turned up, the raw edge turned under to 1 cm and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Straight gore seams, a concealed zip, a folded waistband with an underlap and one buttonhole.

Fabric Recommendations

Light fabrics of natural and blended fibres, such as crepe-back satin.

Additional Supplies

  • Concealed zip
  • 1 button
  • Fusible interfacing (waistband)

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Skirt Gore – 6 pieces
  • Waistband – 1 piece
  • From fusible interfacing:
  • Waistband – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the Waistband.
  2. Stitch all seams joining the Skirt Gores, leaving the zipper opening unstitched in the left side seam. Overlock the seam allowances together (except the left side seam: overlock separately and press open).
  3. Insert the zipper as a concealed zipper, so that the teeth are not visible.
  4. Attach the Waistband to the skirt, leaving the underlap extension of the Waistband projecting beyond the right edge of the zipper opening. Press the attachment seam allowances and the free long edge of the Waistband towards the Waistband. Fold the Waistband in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch the short ends and the underlap edges. Turn the Waistband right side out and topstitch the inner edge in the ditch of the attachment seam.
  5. Press the hem allowance to the wrong side, turn the raw edge under to a width of 1 cm and topstitch.
  6. Make a buttonhole on the Waistband and sew on the button.
