Tech. Description

Scoop Neck Draped Short Sleeve Blouse

A women's hip-length blouse with a scoop neckline, short set-in sleeves and a separate draping panel over the front, gathered at the neckline under a fan-shaped bow cut in one with the draping.

When To Wear

  • In spring and summer, worn loose over a straight skirt or trousers.
  • At the office or for a daytime event, where the draped front replaces a necklace or scarf.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, slightly shaped through the body, with darts on the front pressed upwards.

Neckline: Scoop neckline finished with front and back neckline facings turned to the inside.

Front: A one-piece draping panel is basted over the front along the neckline, shoulder, armhole and side seam. It is gathered at the neckline, and the folds are wrapped with a strip cut 4 cm wide, folded to the centre and stitched at the neckline. The bow is folded along its centre line and stitched at the ends. The outer edge of the draping curves down to the hem and is either turned and topstitched or finished with a narrow rolled hem.

Sleeves: Short, set-in, with a turned and topstitched hem.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, with no seams or darts.

Finishing: Side and shoulder seams pressed towards the back and serged; garment and sleeve hems turned up 1.5 cm and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Gathering and hand-securing the draping folds, wrapping them with a strip, a cut-on bow, neckline facings and set-in sleeves.

Fabric Recommendations

Blouse fabrics made of natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (front and back neckline facings)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: Hem allowance for the garment and sleeve - 1.5 cm. Other seams - 1.0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

  • From main fabric:
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Draping – 1 piece
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece
    • Front Neckline Facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Interface the facings with fusible interfacing.
  2. Stitch the darts on the front. Press the dart allowances upwards.
  3. Serge the outer edge allowance of the Draping, turn it under and topstitch, or finish it with a narrow rolled hem (trim the allowance first). Serge the upper straight edge of the bow. Fold the cut-on bow along the marked center line, right sides together, and stitch the ends of the bow. Clip the neckline allowance at the end of the stitching where the bow begins. Place the Draping on the Front and baste it along the neckline, shoulder, armhole and side edges. Cut a strip 4 cm wide. Fold the edges to the center and press. Place the strip right side down on the right side of the front between the marks. Stitch to the front along the neckline edge. Gather the Draping. If necessary, secure the folds by hand. Wrap the strip around the folds and secure it at the neckline edge.
  4. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  5. Stitch the shoulder seams of the Front Neckline Facing and Back Neckline Facing, press allowances open. Serge the outer edge of the facings. Place the facings right side down on the main garment and stitch the neckline edge. Clip allowances at curves, turn the facing to the inside and press.
  6. Stitch the sleeve seams, press allowances towards the back and serge. Set sleeves into armholes, press allowances and serge.
  7. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and sleeves, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
