A women's straight blouse with short set-in sleeves and a V-neckline gathered by a tape threaded through stitched casings, so the neckline edge forms a narrow frill.

When To Wear

In spring and summer with trousers or a skirt, tucked in or worn loose.
Under a jacket at work, where the gathered neckline shows at the lapels.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Straight, without darts; front and back both cut on the fold.

Neckline: V-neck at the front and round at the back. The neckline facing is turned to the right side; parallel lines stitched through it along the marks form casings. A tape 0.5 cm wide (ready-made, or a 2 cm strip folded in four) is threaded through and drawn up, and the amount of gathering is checked against a paper control template supplied with the pattern. The tape ends are secured with bar tacks.

Sleeves: Short, set-in, with a turned and topstitched hem.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, no opening.

Finishing: Side and shoulder seams pressed to the back and serged; garment and sleeve hems turned up 1.5 cm and topstitched.

Beginner. No darts or closures; the only detailed step is stitching even casings and distributing the gathers by the template.

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: Hem allowance for the garment and sleeve bottom edge – 1.5 cm. Other seams – 1.0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical details).

- Front – 1 piece on fold

- Sleeve – 2 pieces
From fusible interfacing:
- Back Facing – 1 piece
- Front Facing – 1 piece
Paper template (not cut from fabric):
- Facing Control Block – 1 piece (used to check the amount of gathering)

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

Fuse interfacing to the Back Facing and Front Facing.
Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press the allowances towards the Back and serge.
Stitch the shoulder seams of the Back Facing and Front Facing, press the allowances open. Serge the outer edge of the facings. Place the facings right side down onto the garment and stitch along the neckline edge. Clip the allowances at the curves, turn the facing to the right side and press.
Stitch parallel lines on the right side along the marks, forming casings.
Cut a strip 2 cm wide, fold it in half lengthwise and press. Fold the long edges to the center and press again. Alternatively, use ready-made tape 0.5 cm wide. Thread the tape through the casings and gather the neckline, checking the amount of gathering against the Facing Control Block template. Secure the ends of the tape with bar tacks (crosswise stitches).
Stitch the Sleeve seams, press the allowances towards the back and serge. Set the sleeves into the armholes, press the allowances and serge.
Serge the bottom edges of the garment and sleeves, press them to the wrong side and topstitch.
