Tech. Description

V-Neck Blouse with Cuffed Sleeves

A women's hip-length blouse with a crossover V-neck front, bust darts and shoulder pleats, a back yoke over an inverted box pleat, a stand collar at the back neck and short set-in sleeves with cuffs.

When To Wear

  • At the office with trousers or a pencil skirt, worn loose over the waistband.
  • In spring and summer as a daytime top; the point of the V can be fixed with a brooch instead of a button.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-fitted through the bust with side bust darts, straight below to the hem.

Length: Hip length.

Neckline: V-neck formed by the faced edges of the two fronts. A double stand collar is set into the back neckline and runs to the shoulder seams, where it meets the front edges.

Front: Two fronts with pleats laid at the shoulder edge, turned towards the centre front. The right front laps over the left along the centre line and the left front is stitched to the right front facing, so there is no opening. The lower corner of the V is held with a bar of topstitching, a decorative button or a brooch.

Sleeves: Short, set-in, one-piece sleeves with a cuff sewn into a ring, folded in half and stitched in the ditch.

Back: Back yoke cut on the fold; the back below it is cut on the fold, with an inverted box pleat at the centre of the yoke seam.

Finishing: Seams overlocked and pressed towards the back; hem overlocked, turned up and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Overlapped faced fronts joined to the opposite facing, a stand collar set only into the back neck and closed over the shoulder seams, an inverted box pleat under a yoke and set-in sleeves with cuffs.

Fabric Recommendations

Blouse fabrics made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (front facings, one stand collar piece, cuffs)
  • A decorative button or a brooch for the point of the V (optional; topstitching can be used instead)

Cutter's Must

Attention! First of all, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical details). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:

    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 2 pieces
    • Center Front Facing – 2 pieces
    • Stand Collar – 2 pieces
    • Sleeve – 2 pieces
    • Cuff – 2 pieces

Clip allowances at curves and at the mark, turn pieces right side out, press.

  6. Press the lower allowance of the inner Stand Collar to the wrong side. Place the inner Stand Collar on the outer Stand Collar, right sides together, and stitch the upper edge precisely to the marked shoulder seam line. Clip allowances.

  8. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back and overlock.
  9. Stitch the sleeve seams, press allowances towards the back of the sleeve and overlock. Set sleeves into armholes, press and overlock allowances.
