Sewing Instructions

WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

  1. Interface the pieces with fusible interfacing.
  2. Stitch the back princess seams, press allowances towards the center and overcast. Stitch the darts on the lower back pieces, press depths towards the center. Stitch the upper and lower back pieces, press allowances upwards and overcast.
  3. Interface the slit allowance on the back pieces. Overcast the center back seam separately on each piece. Stitch the center back seam from the neckline to the first mark and from the second mark to the slit mark. Press open the center seam allowances, pressing the slit. Insert the zipper. Topstitch 0.1 cm along the edges of the slit.
  4. Stitch the front princess seams, press allowances towards the center and overcast. Stitch the darts on the lower front piece, press depths towards the center. Stitch the upper and lower front pieces, press allowances upwards and overcast.
  5. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press allowances towards the back and overcast.
  6. Overcast the outer edge of the pelerine, press to the wrong side and topstitch. (Or overcast the outer edge with a narrow rolled hem. In this case, the outer edge allowance must be trimmed). Place the pelerine on the garment wrong side to right side and secure along the neckline.
  7. Stitch the shoulder seams of the neckline facings, press allowances open. Overcast the outer edge. Place the facing with the garment right sides together. Stitch the neckline edge. Clip allowances at curves and corners. Turn the facing to the wrong side, straighten, press. Secure the facing to the main garment at the shoulder seams and center back seam.
  8. Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the armhole length + 5 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise right side out and press. Place the binding with the armhole edge right sides together and stitch. Clip allowances. Fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
  9. Overcast the bottom edge of the dress, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
