Tech. Description

Sleeveless Layered Blouse

A women's sleeveless flared top in two full layers, an upper and a lower one, joined at the round neckline and the armholes. The front of the upper layer is shorter, so the lower layer shows below it; the hem is longer at the back.

When To Wear

  • In summer with slim trousers, jeans or a pencil skirt.
  • Under an open jacket or cardigan in warm weather.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Loose and flared from the shoulders, with no darts.

Length: Hip length; high-low hem, longer at the back.

Neckline: Round, finished by stitching the two layers together and turning the lower layer to the inside, so no facing is needed.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; armholes finished the same way, front and back in two stages.

Front: Upper and lower fronts each cut in one piece on the fold; the lower layer extends below the upper one.

Back: Upper and lower backs each cut in one piece on the fold, no centre back seam.

Finishing: Hems overlocked, turned up 2 cm and topstitched, or finished with a narrow rolled hem.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Four pieces and no fastenings, but the layers must be joined at the neckline and turned through the armholes, and lightweight fabric needs care.

Fabric Recommendations

Thin dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibres; chiffon.

Additional Supplies

  • No notions are needed: no fastenings or facings.

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: thin dress fabrics made of natural or blended fibers; chiffon.
If the pattern pieces have a double outline, seam allowances are included.
If the outline is single, seam allowances are not included.
Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance – 2 cm.
Attention! First of all, print out the paper patterns and arrange them on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.
When sewing pieces together, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • 1. Upper Back – 1 piece on fold
  • 2. Upper Front – 1 piece on fold
  • 3. Lower Back – 1 piece on fold
  • 4. Lower Front – 1 piece on fold

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the shoulder seams of the upper front and upper back. Press seam allowances open. Stitch the side seams. Overlock seam allowances and press towards the back.
  2. Stitch the side seams of the lower front and lower back. Overlock seam allowances and press towards the back. Fold the lower front and lower back wrong sides together and stitch the shoulder seams. Press seam allowances open.
  3. Place the lower layer of the blouse, wrong side down, onto the right side of the upper layer, align the neckline edges and stitch around the neckline. Trim the seam allowances, turn the lower layer to the inside and press the neckline. Stitch the armholes in two stages: first the front armhole, then the back armhole.
  4. Overlock the hem allowance of the blouse, press to the wrong side and topstitch.

Tip: The blouse hem can be finished with a narrow rolled hem. In this case, trim the hem allowances to 0.5 cm.
