Wide Collar Asymmetrical Zipper Jacket

Introducing a chic women's jacket pattern featuring a distinctive wide collar, an asymmetrical front zipper, and stylish zipper pockets.

When To Wear

This jacket is perfect for adding a touch of contemporary elegance to various occasions, making it an excellent choice for:

  • Transitional Weather: Ideal for layering during spring or autumn due to its structured yet comfortable design.
  • Smart Casual Outings: Elevates everyday looks for lunch, shopping, or informal gatherings.
  • Evening & Event Styling: A sophisticated alternative to a blazer for a modern, polished appearance.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A tailored, fitted jacket with a sharp, contemporary profile, finishing at the hip.

Neckline & Collar: Features a prominent wide collar cut in one with the fronts (grown-on collar, joined by a seam at the center back), finished with facings and edge-topstitched.

Closure: An eye-catching asymmetrical separating zipper, set into the left front princess seam and the edge of the right front, provides a modern and functional front closure.

Sleeves: Classic long set-in sleeves with a tailored fit.

Pockets: Two vertical zipper pockets are set into the lower side front panels, with lining pocket bags.

Front Details: Vertical princess seams and a horizontal seam on the side front panels create a flattering and structured front; the upper side fronts and back yoke can be cut from a second fabric in a related or contrasting color.

Back Details: Features a back yoke, a center back seam and princess seams for shaping and a polished finish.

Length: Finishes at the hip, offering a versatile length for pairing with skirts or trousers.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires confident sewing skills, including precise zipper insertion for both the asymmetrical front and the zipper pockets, as well as accurate lining and collar construction.

Turn the allowances to the wrong side through the opening and straighten the edges. Place a zipper under the edges of the opening so that the teeth are visible and stitch. Attach the pocket bags (Smaller Pocket Bag and Big Pocket Bag), right side to the wrong side of the zipper tape. Stitch the edges of the pocket bags together.
  5. On the left front, stitch the princess seam, inserting the left half of the separating zipper tape, press the allowances open. Stitch the right princess seam of the front, press allowances open.
  6. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, press the allowances open. Stitch the center back seam of the collar, press the allowances open. Stitch the grown-on collar into the back neckline, clipping the allowance at the corner. Clip and press the allowances open.

Stitch the grown-on collar of the facings into the neckline of the Back Neckline Facing, clipping the allowance at the corner. Clip and press the allowances open.
  8. Attach the right half of the separating zipper to the front edge of the right front, with the teeth pointing away from the edge. Place the facings on the jacket, right sides together, and stitch the front edges, collar edge, and lower corner of the front. Clip allowances at curves, trim at corners, turn pieces to the right side. Topstitch along the front edge and collar at 0.5 – 0.7 cm.
  9. Stitch the elbow seam of the sleeve (Upper Sleeve to Lower Sleeve), press the allowances open. Press up the sleeve hem. Stitch the front sleeve seam, press the allowances open. Set the sleeves into the armholes, matching the notches. Attach the shoulder pads.
