Pencil Skirt with Angled Contrast Inserts

FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS: suiting fabrics made of natural or blended fibers; artificial or natural leather for inserts. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: fusible interfacing; 1 invisible zipper.

CUTTER'S MUST

IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE NOT INCLUDED. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance for the bottom edge - 2 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED. WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH!

• From main fabric:
  • Back panel – 2 pieces
  • Front panel – 1 piece on fold
  • Side part of front panel – 2 pieces
  • Back facing – 4 pieces
  • Front facing - 1 piece
• From contrast fabric:
  • Back insert – 2 pieces
  • Front insert – 2 pieces
• From fusible interfacing:
  • Back facing – 2 pieces
  • Front facing - 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

1. Interface the facing pieces with fusible interfacing.
2. Stitch darts on the back panel, press seam allowances towards the center. Attach the back insert to the back panel, press seam allowances upwards and overcast. Attach the outer back facings to the insert, press seam allowances upwards and overcast. Overcast the center edges of the back panel separately on each piece. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the slit mark. Press seam allowances open, pressing the zipper slit and the bottom slit. Insert the zipper. Topstitch along the folds of the bottom slit.
3. Attach the front insert to the front panel, clipping at the corner, press seam allowances towards the center, overcast. Attach the side part to the front insert, ending the stitching exactly at the marked side seam line. Clip seam allowances at the notch, press towards the insert and overcast.
4. Stitch side seams, press seam allowances towards the back and overcast.
5. Stitch and press open the side seams of the inner facings. Overcast the bottom edge. Place the facing with the skirt right sides together and stitch the top edge. Topstitch seam allowances to the facing 0.2 cm from the stitching line. Fold the facings to the wrong side, press. Fold under the center edges and sew to the zipper tape.
6. Overcast the bottom edge of the skirt, press seam allowances to the wrong side and hem with blind stitches.
