Pattern #4262
Tech. Description

Sleeveless High Low Gathered Dress

Introducing a chic sleeveless dress pattern featuring a gently gathered waist and a playful high-low hemline with a layered, ruffled finish.

When To Wear

This versatile dress is perfect for various occasions, offering comfort and style:

  • Casual Gatherings: Ideal for relaxed daytime events, brunches, or shopping trips.
  • Summer Celebrations: a lovely choice for garden parties, outdoor weddings, or festive daytime events.
  • Vacation & Resort Wear: Perfect for warm weather destinations, offering breathability and effortless elegance.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a relaxed, flowing silhouette, gently gathered at the waist to define the figure.

Neckline: a simple, elegant scoop neckline on both the front and back.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with clean-finished armholes for a polished look.

Waist: An elasticized, gathered waistline creates a comfortable and flattering fit.

Hem: a distinctive high-low hem, cascading from above the knee in the front to a midi length at the back, featuring a delicate layered and ruffled edge.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires skills in handling lightweight fabrics, constructing darts, assembling lining, creating an elasticized casing, and finishing a curved, layered hem.

Fabric Recommendations

To achieve the desired drape and flow, select lightweight dress fabrics such as:

  • Lightweight dress fabrics made from natural fibers
  • Lightweight dress fabrics made from blended fibers
  • Chiffon

Additional Supplies

  • Elastic tape (0.5-0.7 cm width)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances; if the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: upper edges of lining and skirt — 1.5 cm, all other seams 1 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need.

  • From main fabric:
    • Upper front – 1 piece with fold
    • Upper back – 1 piece with fold
    • Skirt – 1 piece with fold
    • Front lining – 1 piece with fold
    • Back lining — 1 piece with fold
    • Upper front lining — 1 piece with fold
    • Upper back lining — 1 piece with fold

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Stitch darts on front pieces. Press seam allowances downwards.
  2. Stitch shoulder and side seams on main and lining pieces. Press seam allowances towards the back. Place main and lining pieces right sides together and stitch the neckline. Turn the lining to the wrong side. Stitch the armhole with the lining in 2 steps: first the front armhole, then the back armhole. Clip seam allowances, turn pieces right side out and press.
  3. Secure main and lining pieces at the lower edge with a temporary stitch 0.5 cm from the edge.
  4. Stitch side seams of the skirt lining. Overlock seam allowances and press towards the back.
  5. Place the skirt and lining right sides together. Stitch the lining and skirt along the upper edge, inserting the upper of the dress between them. Overlock seam allowance, leaving an opening. Insert elastic into the created casing. Secure the ends of the elastic.
  6. Overlock the lower edge of the skirt and the lower edge of the lining. Fold to the wrong side, press and topstitch.
