Gathered Dolman Sleeve Mini Dress

Pattern #4244
Tech. Description

Gathered Off-Shoulder Dress

Introducing a women's sewing pattern for a chic dress featuring a versatile gathered neckline, draped dolman sleeves, and a sleek, fitted mini skirt silhouette.

When To Wear

This stylish dress is perfect for a range of occasions, offering comfort and elegance:

  • Casual Chic & Daywear: For a sophisticated yet relaxed look during daytime events or stylish outings.
  • Evening & Cocktail Events: Its elegant drape and fitted silhouette make it suitable for semi-formal gatherings and parties.
  • Date Night & Social Outings: a confident and fashionable choice for an evening out or meeting friends.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a fitted mini dress with a draped and voluminous upper bodice that cinches at the natural waist.

Neckline: a versatile gathered neckline designed with an elastic casing, allowing it to be worn off-the-shoulder or as a wide, ruched boat neck.

Sleeves: Integrated dolman sleeves that create a relaxed, draped effect, forming a fluid line from the shoulder to the cuff.

Waist: Defined by a horizontal seam that joins the flowing upper bodice to the structured, fitted skirt.

Length: Mini-skirt length, finishing above the knee for a contemporary and playful look.

Back: The upper back mirrors the gathered and draped front, while the fitted skirt section features a center back seam for shaping.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires experience with sewing knit fabrics, constructing a casing for elastic, and neatly finishing seams and hems.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose knit fabrics with medium stretch to achieve the desired drape and fit:

  • Medium-stretch knit fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • 1.5 cm wide elastic tape (approximate length indicated on the front pattern piece)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: Neckline hem allowance – 2 cm, bottom hem allowance — 1.5 cm, other seams – 1 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

  • From main fabric:
    • Upper back - 1 piece on fold
    • Upper front - 1 piece on fold
  • From companion fabric:
    • Lower front - 1 piece on fold
    • Lower back — 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Stitch the center seams on the lower back parts.
  2. Attach the lower parts to the upper parts. Finish the allowances and press them downwards.
  3. Stitch the shoulder seams. Finish the allowances and press them towards the back. Finish the side seam and sleeve seam in one go: Along the front side seam, along the front sleeve hem, along the back sleeve hem, and along the back side seam. Stitch the side seams from the bottom to the mark. Fold the sleeve hem allowances inwards and topstitch.
  4. Finish the allowance, fold inwards and topstitch, leaving an opening. Thread the elastic through the casing and secure the ends.
  5. Finish the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
