Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibers. Also needed: lining fabric, invisible zipper, fusible interfacing.

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include seam allowances; if the contour is single, the patterns do not include seam allowances. Seam allowances: hem allowance for the dress bottom – 2.0 cm, other allowances - 1 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can range from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

  • Side back piece - 2 pieces
  • Side lower front piece - 2 pieces
  • Center lower front piece – 2 pieces
  • Upper front piece - 2 pieces
  • Front insert - 1 piece
  • Front facing - 2 pieces
• From lining fabric:
  • Center back piece - 2 pieces
  • Side back piece - 2 pieces
  • Upper front piece - 2 pieces
  • Front insert - 1 piece
• From fusible interfacing:
  • Front facing - 2 pieces
  • Slit allowances

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

1. Interface the pieces with fusible interfacing.
2. Stitch the darts on the back pieces. Press the darts towards the center of the piece.
3. Stitch the back princess seams, press allowances towards the center and overcast.
4. Overcast the center back seam. Stitch the center seam from the zipper notch to the bottom. Press allowances open, pressing the zipper opening. Insert the zipper.
5. Stitch the princess seams of the lower front piece, press allowances towards the center and overcast. Stitch the center seam of the lower front piece, simultaneously stitching the slit. Press allowances and slit to the right side, overcast.
6. Stitch the darts on the upper front piece. Press the darts towards the center of the piece. Stitch the center seam of the upper front piece, press allowances open and overcast.
7. Stitch the center seam of the front facing, starting the stitch strictly at the marked neckline line, press allowances open. Fold the facing with the upper piece and stitch the neckline. Clip allowances at curves, turn the facing to the wrong side, press.
8. Fold the front insert with the lining and stitch the upper edge. Turn the piece to the right side, press, secure along the side edges. Stitch the insert to the inner edges of the front facing from the mark downwards.
9. Stitch the upper and lower front pieces together. Overcast allowances and press upwards.
10. Stitch the shoulder and side seams. Overcast allowances and press towards the back.
11. On the lining pieces, stitch darts, back princess seams, side and shoulder seams similarly to the main fabric pieces. Overcast the center back, front, and bottom edges. Stitch the right part of the lining to the inner edge of the front facing. Fold the front facing to the right side, align the neckline edges of the main garment and lining. Stopping 5 mm before the edges of the invisible zipper, fold the lining and pin it to the upper edge of the dress. On the right side of the dress, fold the allowances along the zipper and pin them to the neckline edge over the lining. Stitch the neckline edge. Clip allowances at curves, turn the pieces to the wrong side and press. Fold allowances along the zipper to the wrong side and attach to the zipper tape. The left side is processed similarly. Stitch the center seam of the front lining. Stitch the armhole with lining in two steps. Secure the lining to the garment along the lower edge of the front lining.
12. Overcast the hem of the dress, press to the wrong side and hem with blind stitches.
