Belted Knit Dress with Pleated Trim

Pattern #4148
Tech. Description

Fabric & Materials

Fabric recommendations: Well-draping knit fabric with medium stretch from natural or blended fibers.

CUTTER'S MUST

If the patterns have a double contour, they include SEAM ALLOWANCES. If the contour is single, the patterns do not include SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: Sleeve hem and dress hem allowance - 2 cm, neckline allowance - 1.5 cm, top trim allowance - 1.5 cm. All other seams - 0.7 cm. ATTENTION! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

  • From main fabric:
    • Front - 1 piece on fold
    • Back – 2 pieces
    • Trim – 1 piece
    • Belt – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the NOTCHES - they must match! Tip: Knit fabric pieces are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle or on a coverstitch machine to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlocker. ATTENTION! Markings on the patterns are made on the right side.

  1. Fold the belt piece in half lengthwise and stitch along the long and bias edges. Turn the belt right side out and press.
  2. Stitch the center back seam. Overlock the allowance and press to the left.
  3. Stitch the shoulder seams. Overlock the allowances and press towards the back.
  4. Overlock, fold inwards, and topstitch the upper and lower allowances of the trim. On the trim, create pleats and secure with a temporary stitch 0.5 cm from the edge. Trim the trim according to the pattern. Place the belt on the trim and overlock the vertical edge. Fold the allowance inwards and hem with invisible hand stitches.
  5. Stitch the right side seam, inserting the trim between the front and back. Overlock the allowance and press towards the back. Stitch the left side seam, inserting the belt between the front and back. Overlock the allowance and press towards the back.
  6. Overlock the neckline allowance, fold inwards, and topstitch.
  7. Overlock the sleeve edges, fold inwards, and topstitch.
  8. Overlock the bottom hem allowance. Fold inwards and topstitch, starting and ending the stitch at the right side seam.
  9. Tie the belt.
