Pattern #4130
Tech. Description

V-Neck Kaftan Top Drawstring Scalloped Trim

Introducing a breezy kaftan top sewing pattern featuring a flattering V-neck, an adjustable drawstring waist, and distinctive scalloped trim details.

When To Wear

This versatile kaftan top is perfect for relaxed, warm-weather occasions, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Beach & Resort Wear: a stylish and comfortable cover-up over swimwear.
  • Casual Summer Outings: Offering effortless elegance for everyday wear during warmer months.
  • Relaxed Lounging: Providing chic comfort for at-home relaxation or vacation ease.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a loose and flowing kaftan style, adjustable at the waist for a cinched or relaxed fit.

Neckline: a graceful V-neckline finished with a clean facing.

Sleeves: Wide, integrated dolman sleeves, reaching approximately three-quarter length, detailed with scalloped trim.

Waist: An internal channel with two openings at the front, through which a self-fabric tie is threaded to gather and define the waist.

Hem: a gently shaped high-low hem, slightly longer at the back, embellished with a striking scalloped trim.

Details: Decorative scalloped trim is applied along the hemline and sleeve edges, adding a delicate and elegant finish.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern involves working with facings, creating a drawstring channel with openings, and attaching decorative trim.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose lightweight fabrics with good drape, ideally with a border print, made from natural or blended fibers:

  • Lightweight fabrics with a border print (coupon)
  • Natural fibers
  • Blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Strip of lace trim, 1.0 – 1.5 cm wide (approximate length will be indicated on the pattern pieces)

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Seam allowance at the bottom and outer edges of the back and front facings – 0 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need (don't forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces).

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece
    • Front – 1 piece
    • Placket – 2 pieces
    • Back neckline facing – 1 piece
    • Front neckline facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch shoulder seams. Press seam allowances towards the back and overlock.
  2. Stitch shoulder seams of facings, press seam allowances open. Overlock outer edge.
  3. Place facing and neckline right sides together and stitch neckline edge. Clip seam allowances, turn facing to the wrong side and topstitch along the inner edge to the main garment.
  4. Overlock side edges, press to the wrong side and topstitch. Topstitch trim along side edges.
  5. Overlock and cut two buttonholes on the front for the tie. Press short edges of the placket to the wrong side and topstitch. Press long edges of the placket to the wrong side. Place the placket from the wrong side onto the front and back according to markings and topstitch 0.1 cm from the fold.
  6. Cut a tie of the required length (approximately, waist circumference + 1.0 m) and 4 cm width. Press the tie in half lengthwise, right side out. Then unfold and press long edges towards the marked center line. Fold short seam allowances inwards and topstitch the tie 0.1 cm from the edge. Thread the tie through the plackets.
