Tech. Description

Gathered Skirt with Peplum Yoke

Introducing a chic midi skirt pattern featuring a structured hip yoke, delicate gathering, and decorative front flaps for a modern silhouette.

When To Wear

This versatile skirt is perfect for a range of occasions, offering a blend of comfort and elegance:

  • Professional Settings: Paired with a blouse or knit top for a refined office look.
  • Smart Casual Outings: Styled with heels or flats for brunches, lunches, or weekend events.
  • Evening & Social Gatherings: Elevated with dressier accessories for a sophisticated ensemble.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: An A-line midi skirt with a fitted hip yoke and a voluminous lower body created by soft gathering.

Waist: No separate waistband: the top edge is finished with shaped facings – the outer facing is sewn on the right side and forms a waistband-like band, with an inner facing behind it.

Yoke: The skirt features a prominent yoke extending over the hips (with princess seams at the back), with a distinct horizontal seam where the gathered skirt panels are attached.

Gathering: Soft gathers below the back yoke and on the front from the side seams to the marks (the center front stays flat), adding graceful volume and movement to the lower skirt.

Front Detail: a topstitched placket strip runs down the center front over the yoke and the skirt to the hem, creating a clean, tailored aesthetic.

Flaps: Two decorative rounded flaps on the front yoke just below the waist (no pockets).

Closure: An invisible zipper is neatly set into the center back seam for a smooth finish.

Length: Midi length, falling elegantly below the knee.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. This pattern requires skills in gathering fabric, constructing a shaped yoke, inserting an invisible zipper, and creating flaps and facings.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose fabrics with body and drape to best showcase the skirt's silhouette:

  • Dense dress fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing
  • Invisible zipper

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, the patterns are without seam allowances. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance – 2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
