Tech. Description

Women's V-Neck Henley Blouse

A women's pull-on blouse with short cut-on sleeves and a V-neckline framed by two overlapping front plackets held with two buttons, over a pleat at the centre front. A band-like facing finishes the back neckline.

When To Wear

  • In summer with jeans, shorts or skirts.
  • Under a cardigan or a light jacket in spring.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-loose, with the sleeves extending from the shoulder line; hip length.

Neckline: V-neckline edged at the front with two plackets with rounded ends. At the back, an outer neckline facing is sewn to the right side and shows as a band; an inner facing finishes the inside.

Front: The plackets are cut double, interfaced and turned, then sewn to the front; the right placket laps over the left and their lower ends are stitched together over a pleat in the front. Two buttons are sewn through both plackets, so there is no working opening.

Sleeves: Short sleeves cut in one with the front and back, hem 1.5 cm turned and topstitched.

Back: One piece cut on the fold.

Finishing: Shoulder seams are sewn with the front caught between the outer and inner back facings. Seams pressed towards the back and serged; hem turned up 2 cm and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Turned plackets with curved ends, clipping into the corners of the placket opening, forming the pleat and a two-layer back neck facing enclosing the shoulder seams.

Fabric Recommendations

Blouse fabrics from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (front plackets, back neckline facing)
  • 2 buttons

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece on fold
    • Front – 1 piece on fold
    • Front Placket – 4 pieces
    • Back Neckline Facing – 2 pieces
  • From fusible interfacing:
    • Front Placket – 2 pieces
    • Back Neckline Facing – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  1. Fuse interfacing to the designated pieces.
  2. Stitch the outer back neckline facing to the back neckline, press seam allowances towards the facing.
  3. Fold the front plackets in pairs, right sides together, and stitch the outer edge. Clip seam allowances at the curve, turn pieces right side out, straighten, and press.
  4. Attach the plackets to the front along the long edge, stopping 1 cm from the bottom. Clip the front seam allowance at the corners, stopping 1 mm from the stitching line. Create a pleat on the front, overlapping the right placket over the left. Stitch the ends of the plackets, folding back the front and securing the bottom edge. Overlock seam allowances.
  5. Overlock the outer edge of the inner back neckline facing. Place the neckline facing onto the back and stitch the neckline edge precisely up to the marked shoulder seam line. Clip seam allowances, turn the facing to the wrong side, and press.
  6. Stitch the shoulder seams, inserting the front between the inner and outer back neckline facings, press seam allowances towards the back and overlock.
  7. Stitch the side seams, press seam allowances towards the back and overlock.
  8. Overlock the bottom edge of the garment and sleeves, press to the wrong side, and topstitch.
  9. Sew the buttons onto the plackets, stitching through both plackets to hold them together.
