Ruched Pencil Skirt with Side Button Placket

FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS: soft suiting fabrics made of natural or blended fibers. YOU WILL ALSO NEED: fusible interfacing; 1 invisible zipper; 8 buttons.

CUTTER'S MUST

IF THE PATTERNS HAVE A DOUBLE CONTOUR, SEAM ALLOWANCES ARE INCLUDED. IF THE CONTOUR IS SINGLE, THE PATTERNS ARE WITHOUT SEAM ALLOWANCES. SEAM ALLOWANCES: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowance for the bottom edge of the front panels, back panel, and plackets – 3 cm. ATTENTION! FIRST, PRINT OUT THE PAPER PATTERNS AND LAY THEM OUT ON THE FABRIC WIDTH (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH MATERIAL YOU WILL NEED.

  • Back panel – 2 pieces
  • Front panel right – 1 piece
  • Front panel left – 1 piece
  • Placket right – 1 piece
  • Placket left – 2 pieces
  • Waistband – 2 pieces
• FROM FUSIBLE INTERFACING:
  • Waistband – 2 pieces

Sewing Instructions

WHEN STITCHING PIECES, PAY ATTENTION TO THE NOTCHES - THEY MUST MATCH! ATTENTION! Markings on patterns are made on the right side!

1. Fuse interfacing to the waistband piece.
2. Stitch darts on the back panel pieces, press seam allowances towards the center.
3. Serge the center edges of the back panel separately. Stitch the center seam from the zipper mark to the bottom, press seam allowances open. Insert the invisible zipper.
4. Fold the left placket pieces right sides together and stitch the inner seam from the mark to the bottom. Clip seam allowances at the mark, turn the placket right side out, straighten, press.
5. Attach the left placket to the left front panel, press seam allowances towards the panel, serge.
6. Form and secure the pleats on the right front panel. Pleat depths are directed upwards. Press the right placket lengthwise in the middle, right side out. Stitch the right front panel, right placket, and left front panel, positioning the right placket in the middle. Press seam allowances towards the right panel, serge.
7. Stitch the side seams, press seam allowances towards the back panel and serge.
8. Attach the outer side of the waistband to the upper edge of the skirt, press seam allowances towards the waistband. Finish the ends of the waistband, trim seam allowances at the corners and turn out. Fold under the inner edge of the waistband and topstitch into the seam of attaching the outer waistband. Press the waistband when finished.
9. Serge the bottom edge of the skirt, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
10. Mark and overcast a buttonhole on the waistband, sew on a button. Sew buttons onto the right placket, securing it to the left placket.
