Puffed Sleeve Contrast Collar Dress

A women's fitted knee-length dress with a waist seam, a V-neck with a wide pointed collar in contrast fabric, a four-button front bodice and puffed elbow-length sleeves gathered into contrast cuffs.

When To Wear

  • At the office or for daytime events in spring and autumn.
  • Made in one colour with a related-colour collar and cuffs for a quieter look, or in strong contrast for a retro look.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted bodice joined to a straight, close-fitting skirt at the waist seam.

Length: Knee length.

Collar: Wide flat collar with pointed ends, cut in four pieces from the trim fabric and interfaced, set between the dress and the facings along a V-neckline.

Front: The bodice opens to the waist seam and closes right over left with four buttons; front facings are interfaced. Upper centre and upper side front pieces are joined by princess seams, with darts on the upper and lower front.

Sleeves: Set-in, gathered at the sleeve cap and at the lower edge, finished with a folded interfaced cuff in the trim fabric.

Back: Princess seams on the upper back, darts on the lower back, a concealed zipper in the centre back seam and a back slit with interfaced allowance.

Skirt: Lower front cut on the fold, lower back in two pieces.

Finishing: Hem turned up 2.5 cm and sewn with blind stitches.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. A collar set between the dress and the facings, a buttoned opening ending in the waist seam, gathered sleeves with cuffs and a back slit.

Fabric Recommendations

Dress fabrics from natural or blended fibres. Trim fabric in a contrasting or related colour for the collar and cuffs.

Additional Supplies

  • Trim fabric (collar, cuffs)
  • Fusible interfacing (front facings, back neck facings, collar, cuffs, back slit allowance)
  • Concealed zipper
  • 4 buttons

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm; hem allowance for the dress bottom – 2.5 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
