Hooded Sleeveless Top

Pattern #2356
Tech. Description

Hooded Sleeveless Top

An elegant women's sewing pattern for a sleeveless top featuring an innovative hood construction that drapes beautifully as a cowl neckline.

When To Wear

This versatile top is designed for relaxed elegance, making it an ideal choice for:

  • Elegant Resort Wear: Perfect for stylish travel and warm-weather destinations.
  • Smart Casual Gatherings: Ideal for sophisticated daytime or evening events.
  • Chic Everyday Styling: Adds a unique touch of grace to a relaxed outfit.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a comfortable, relaxed fit that gently skims the body, finishing at the hip.

Neckline: Features a distinctive integrated hood design that elegantly drapes as a cowl neck when down, adding a touch of sophisticated allure.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design with neatly finished armholes.

Back: a clean, high-back neckline maintains a streamlined appearance.

Hem: Straight hemline for easy finishing.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Involves precise dart construction, assembling a draped hood, and neat lining techniques for the neckline and armholes.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose light to medium-weight blouse fabrics that offer a beautiful drape, allowing the cowl hood to fall gracefully:

  • Blouse fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

  • Lining fabric (for facings and hood finish)

Cutter's Must

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Hem allowances for top and lining – 2 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90cm to 150cm) to determine how much material you will need (do not forget to account for paired and symmetrical pieces). When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!

  • From main fabric:
    • Back – 1 piece with fold
    • Front - 1 piece with fold
    • Back lining – 1 piece with fold
    • Front lining – 1 piece with fold

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch darts on the front. Press seam allowances upwards.
  2. Stitch the center seam of the main hood. Press seam allowance open.
  3. Clip the front seam allowance at the corner. Stitch the hood into the back neckline. Press seam allowance open.
  4. Stitch shoulder and side seams. Press seam allowances open.
  5. Stitch lining pieces similarly to main pieces. Place main and lining right sides together and stitch around the front cutout and hood edge. Turn the piece right side out and press.
  6. Stitch the armhole in two steps – first the front armhole, then the back armhole. Clip seam allowances and press.
  7. Secure the main and lining seam allowances at the back neckline allowance.
  8. Overlock the hem allowances, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
