V-Neck Top with Decorative Topstitching

Introducing a versatile women's sewing pattern for a sleeveless V-neck top, featuring an elegant wrap-effect front adorned with precise decorative topstitching.

  • Casual Chic: Pair with trousers or skirts for an effortlessly polished daytime look.
  • Sophisticated Office Wear: Layer under a blazer or cardigan for a professional yet comfortable ensemble.
  • Resort & Travel: a lightweight and stylish choice for warm-weather vacations and exploring new destinations.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: a semi-fitted, sleeveless top designed for comfortable movement and a flattering drape.

Neckline: a stylish V-neck formed by overlapping front panels, accented with finely detailed decorative topstitching or pintucks.

Sleeves: Sleeveless design, finished with clean binding for a neat and comfortable armhole.

Back: a simple, elegant back with a gently rounded neckline, maintaining the top's minimalist appeal.

Hem: a straight bottom hem, providing a classic finish to the garment.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Requires precision in topstitching, working with knit fabrics, and applying bias binding.

Fabric Recommendations

Choose knit fabrics with moderate stretch for optimal comfort and drape:

  • Medium-stretch knit fabrics made from natural or blended fibers

Additional Supplies

No additional notions are required.

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    • Back - 1 piece on fold
    • Front - 1 piece on fold
    • Front insert - 4 pieces

Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics are stitched with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim allowances to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also stitch pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fold the front inserts right sides together and stitch the neckline edge. Turn the pieces right side out, straighten, and press. Stitch parallel lines according to the markings.
  2. Stitch the right princess seam of the front, simultaneously with the lower edge of the left insert. Arrange the pieces: front, right front insert, left front insert (lower edge). Clip the allowances at the corner of the front, serge.
  3. Similarly, stitch the left princess seam of the front.
  4. Stitch the shoulder seams (the back shoulder seam is longer than the front shoulder seam by the width of the allowance), press allowances towards the back and serge.
  5. Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the back neckline length + 5 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the binding along the back neckline edge, right side up, and stitch. Clip the allowances. Fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
  6. Cut (if not ready-made) a bias binding 4 cm wide and a length equal to the armhole length + 4 cm. Fold the bias binding in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Place the binding along the armhole edge, right side up, and stitch, fold the binding to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece.
  7. Stitch the side seams, press allowances towards the back and serge.
  8. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, press to the wrong side and topstitch.
