Pleated Wrap Front Dress

Sewing Instructions

1. Stitch darts on the upper BACK PANEL. Press darts towards the center of the piece.
2. On the lower BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL pieces, along the side seams and the center back seam, create pleats according to the markings. The inner fold of the pleat should point upwards. Secure the pleats along the edges. Note: the pleats of the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL do not align with each other. This is intentional for the design.
3. On the upper FRONT PANEL pieces, create and stitch pleats along the marked lines. Overlock the wrap-around edge. Fold, topstitch, and press.
4. Attach the upper FRONT PANEL pieces to the lower one. Press the seam downwards and overlock.
5. Stitch the upper and lower BACK PANEL pieces together, press SEAM ALLOWANCES downwards and overlock.
6. Overlock the center back seam. Insert the ZIPPER from the upper edge to the NOTCH. Fold back the lower part of the ZIPPER and stitch the center back seam from the NOTCH downwards. Press the SEAM ALLOWANCES open.
7. Fuse the BACK PANEL neckline FACINGS with FUSIBLE INTERFACING. Overlock the outer edge of the FACINGS. Stitch the BACK PANEL neckline. Clip the seam at curves, turn the FACING out, and press. Attach the center edge of the FACING to the ZIPPER tape.
8. Overlock the neckline edge on the strap. Press the seam, fold, and topstitch. Stitch the shoulder seams of the BACK PANEL and strap, simultaneously catching the BACK PANEL neckline FACING. Overlock the seam, turn out, and press towards the BACK PANEL.
9. Stitch the side seams. Press the seams towards the BACK PANEL and overlock.
10. Cut a BIAS BINDING 4 cm wide and equal to the armhole length. Fold the BIAS BINDING in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Align the BIAS BINDING with the armhole edge on the right side and stitch, then fold the BIAS BINDING to the wrong side and topstitch along the fold to the main piece. Press the seam.
11. Create pleats on the strap. The pleat depths should point away from the center of the strap. Secure the pleats near the edge.
12. Fold the TRIM STRIP in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch. Turn the piece out and press. Stitch the piece into a loop. Overlock and press the seam. Thread the strap through the decorative TRIM STRIP. Attach the straps to the FRONT PANEL. Press the seam downwards and overlock. Position the TRIM STRIP to cover the strap attachment seam. Secure the TRIM STRIP from the wrong side.
13. Press the hem allowance of the dress to the wrong side, fold inwards another 1 cm, and topstitch.
