Cowl Back Shift Dress With Tie

Pattern #5846
Tech. Description

CUTTER'S MUST

  • From velvet:
    1. BACK PANEL – 1 QTY on fold
    2. FRONT PANEL – 1 QTY
  • From chiffon:
    1. TRIM STRIP – 1 QTY

When cutting, pay attention to the nap direction. It should be directed upwards, strictly on all pieces. To avoid crushing the nap, SEAM ALLOWANCES should be pressed either on a piece of the same velvet or on a thick terry towel from the wrong side. Tip: Pattern pieces made of elastic fabrics are sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim SEAM ALLOWANCES to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also sew pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch shoulder seams and side seams from the bottom to the armhole notch. Serge seams and press towards the BACK PANEL.
  2. Turn the FRONT PANEL neckline allowance and the BACK PANEL “swing” allowance to the wrong side and topstitch.
  3. Turn the FRONT PANEL and BACK PANEL armhole allowances to the wrong side and topstitch.
  4. Turn the bottom edge allowance to the wrong side and topstitch.
  5. Lay pleats on the shoulder seams according to the markings and stitch them for 2 – 2.5 cm, perpendicular to the seam.
  6. Serge the TRIM STRIP piece around the perimeter with a narrow rolled hem.
