Tip: Cut pieces from knit fabrics should be sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim SEAM ALLOWANCES to 0.8 cm. The hem allowance is topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity. You can also sew pieces directly on a 3- or 4-thread overlock machine.
Sewing Instructions
- Stitch the side seams of the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL. Serge the seams and press them towards the BACK PANEL. Stitch the right shoulder seam. Serge the seam and press.
- Stitch the side and right shoulder seams of the FACINGS. Serge the seams and press them towards the BACK PANEL. Serge the outer edge of the FACINGS.
- Place the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL pieces with the FACING right sides together, align the edges, and stitch along the neckline, armhole, and tie edges. Turn the FACINGS to the wrong side, press, and topstitch 1 cm from the edge.
- Serge the side edges of the lower BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL. Stitch the side seams of the lower pieces from the top to the NOTCH. Press the seams open. Cut the drawstring casing. The dimensions of the drawstring casing are indicated on the LEKALA. Fold the drawstring casing in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Turn the short edges in by 2 cm. Place the upper and lower BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL pieces right sides in, insert the drawstring casing between them, aligning the NOTCHES and the edges of the drawstring casing. Stitch the pieces. Serge the seam and press it downwards.
- Serge the bottom edge of the sundress. Fold the edge inwards by 2 cm and topstitch. Along the slit, topstitch the SEAM ALLOWANCES 0.3 - 0.5 cm from the fold.
- Thread the cord through the drawstring casing.
