Lace Maxi Slip Dress with High Side Slits

A women's maxi-length slip dress with a deep V front formed by two gathered upper front pieces, a stretch lace band under the bust and across the upper back, straps threaded through decorative rings, and high side slits.

When To Wear

  • As a nightgown or lounge dress.
  • For warm summer evenings, with a light wrap or jacket over the shoulders.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted lace band under the bust, straight skirt falling to the ankle.

Length: Maxi, to the ankle.

Neckline: Deep V made by two separate upper front pieces; their front and side edges are turned and topstitched, and the lower edges are gathered into the lace band.

Straps: Two straps cut 5 cm wide and folded to a narrow tube. Each strap passes through a decorative ring held in a casing at the top of the upper front, is adjusted to length and sewn to the centre of the upper back edge.

Back: A stretch lace insert forms the upper back; its upper edge is finished with decorative elastic trim applied with a zigzag stitch.

Waist: Stretch lace band between the bodice and the skirt at front, joined to the lower front and lower back pieces.

Skirt: Front and back lower pieces cut in one, with side seams sewn down to a mark and left open below as high slits; the slits are topstitched 0.1 cm from the edge.

Finishing: Overlocked seams, turned and topstitched hem.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Gathering into a lace band, joining chiffon to stretch lace, applying elastic trim with a zigzag stitch, and finishing slits.

Fabric Recommendations

Chiffon for the dress, stretch lace for the front and back inserts.
