Tech. Description

Hooded Fine Wool Cape

A hip-length women's wrap top in a wide, cape-like shape, with a two-piece hood, long sleeves set into an open armhole and a self-fabric tie belt held by four belt loops. Unlined: the hem, front edges, hood edge, sleeve hems and inner seams are finished with bias binding.

When To Wear

  • In spring and autumn over knitwear, shirts and dresses, wrapped and tied at the waist.
  • As a light hooded cover-up with trousers or jeans.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Wide and relaxed, drawn in at the waist by the belt.

Length: Hip length, with a rounded hem.

Collar: Hood in two halves joined by a centre seam, set into the neckline; the hood edge continues the front edge.

Sleeves: Long, straight sleeves set into an open armhole; sleeve and side seam are stitched in one continuous seam.

Front: Wrap front with no buttons; the bound front edge is pressed back along a marked line and topstitched, forming a narrow turned-back band along the front and hood.

Back: One piece with no centre back seam.

Waist: Tie belt, stitched and turned, topstitched 0.5 cm from the edge, passed through four loops on the back and fronts.

Finishing: Hood centre seam and hood attachment seam bound with bias tape; shoulder seams overlocked and pressed towards the back; hem and sleeve hems bound, with no hem allowance.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. No closures, lining or facings; the main skill is applying bias binding evenly along long curved edges.

Fabric Recommendations

Fine wool fabric with a soft drape.
