Cropped Faux Fur Jacket with Carabiner Strap Closures
A cropped women's faux fur jacket with raglan sleeves, faux leather front plackets, collar, cuffs and lower band. It closes with a separating zip, covered by faux leather straps joined with carabiner clasps and rings; a buckled belt runs through loops on the lower band. Fully lined.
When To Wear
- In autumn and winter over knitwear, with high-waisted jeans or trousers.
- Over dresses for evenings out in cold weather.
Key Design Features
Silhouette: Straight body with bust darts on the fronts; the lower edge is lightly gathered into the lower band.
Length: Cropped, ending at the waist with a faux leather band.
Collar: Wide collar with one layer in faux leather and one in faux fur, set into the jacket and lining necklines and stitched together along the outer edge.
Sleeves: Raglan sleeves in two parts: the front sleeve is joined to the front, the back sleeve to the back, and the shoulder seam continues along the top of the sleeve. Folded faux leather cuffs.
Closure: Separating zip set between faux leather edge plackets, topstitched 0.1 cm and 0.7 cm from the edge. Over it, four pairs of faux leather straps: carabiner clasps on the right placket hook into rings on the left.
Waist: Faux leather belt topstitched 0.5 cm from the edge, with a buckle, passing through two belt loops sewn to the lower band at the side seams.
Back: One piece with no centre back seam, finished with the lower band.
Lining: Full lining sewn like the outer jacket, attached to the inner lower band, the front edges, the collar and the sleeve hems.
Level Of Difficulty
Advanced. Combining faux fur and faux leather, a zip set into double plackets, sixteen strap pieces fitted with carabiners and rings and adjusted to length, a gathered hem set into a band and a bagged lining.

Sewing Instructions
- Fuse the faux leather pieces with fusible interfacing.
- Place the Strap pieces in pairs, right sides together, and stitch along 3 sides. Trim the seam allowances close to the seam. Turn the straps right side out, press, and edgestitch 0.1 cm from the seam.
- Press the Right Edge Placket along the fold line. Place the Right Edge Placket and the Right Inner Edge Placket right sides together and insert the zipper between them so that the teeth face away from the edge. Stitch the plackets together, simultaneously stitching in the right half of the zipper. Fold back the inner placket, aligning the long edges, thus forming an applied placket. Topstitch the seam allowances to the inner placket. Place the two Left Edge Placket pieces right sides together, insert the left half of the zipper and stitch the plackets together. Stitch the plackets along the upper and lower edges. Turn them right side out and topstitch along 3 sides at 0.1 cm and 0.7 cm.
- Thread the end of each strap through a carabiner clasp by 3 cm and stitch down. Finish the remaining straps with the rings in the same way. Pin the straps with carabiners to the right placket and the straps with rings to the left placket. Close the zipper, hook the carabiners onto the rings, and adjust the length of all straps. Stitch the raw ends of the straps to the raw edges of the plackets. Open the zipper and continue to handle the plackets as 2 separate units.
- Stitch the bust darts on the Front pieces.
- Stitch the Front Sleeve to the Front. Stitch the Back Sleeve to the Back.
- Stitch the shoulder seams together with the upper sleeve seams.
- Stitch the underarm sleeve seam and the side seam in one continuous seam.
- Press the Cuff in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Unfold the cuff, fold it right sides together and stitch it into a ring. Turn the cuff right side out and press the seam open. Stitch the cuff to the lower edge of the sleeve.
- Fold the Belt-Loop in 3 layers and stitch. Cut it into 2 belt loops.
- Stitch the Lower Front Placket pieces to the Back Placket. Press the seams open. Sew the lower end of each belt loop to the side seam of the outer part of the band at the markings. Attach the upper end of the belt loops to the upper edge of the band.
- Sew a row of long, loose stitches along the lower edge of the jacket and gather it slightly. Stitch the outer part of the lower band to the lower edge of the jacket.
- Sew the lining pieces in the same way as the outer pieces, leaving an opening in the underarm seam of the left sleeve for turning. Stitch the lining to the inner part of the lower band.
- Stitch the upper (faux leather) Collar into the jacket neckline. Stitch the under (faux fur) Collar into the lining neckline. Press the seams open.
- Place the lining and the jacket right sides together, insert the edge plackets between them and stitch the front edges, the collar and the lower edge. Stitch the lining to the sleeve hems. Turn the jacket right side out through the opening in the sleeve lining. Stitch the opening closed.
- Topstitch along the seam joining the lower band to the back and fronts, and along the lower edge.
- Fold the Waistband (belt) in half lengthwise, right sides together, and stitch along three sides, leaving a 7–10 cm opening in the middle of the long side. Turn the belt right side out and press. Topstitch around the edge at 0.5 cm, closing the opening at the same time. Thread on the buckle.
