Tech. Description

Gathered Flounce Asymmetrical Midi Skirt

A women's midi skirt with a smooth hip yoke and two gathered tiers below it. The yoke seam and the tier seam run diagonally, so the hem drops from the right side to its longest point at the left side. Faced waist, invisible zip in the left side seam.

When To Wear

  • In summer with a fitted top or a tucked-in blouse.
  • On holiday with sandals and a light knit top.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted at the waist and hips through the yoke, full below it.

Length: Midi, with an asymmetric hem that is shortest at the right side and longest at the left.

Skirt: Front and back each have a yoke, an upper flounce and a lower flounce. Each flounce is gathered along its top edge to fit the piece above; the seams are pressed upwards and overlocked.

Waist: No waistband. The back yoke is shaped with darts; the front yoke has none. The top edge is finished with interfaced front and back facings, understitched 0.2 cm from the seam.

Closure: Invisible zip in the left side seam.

Finishing: Right side seam pressed towards the back; hem turned up twice and topstitched.

Level Of Difficulty

Intermediate. Even gathering of long edges on two tiers, diagonal tier seams that must meet at the side seams, an invisible zip and a faced waist.

Fabric Recommendations

Fabrics from natural fibres or natural fibres blended with synthetics.

  2. Stitch darts on the back yoke. Press darts towards the center of the piece.
  3. Back skirt half assembly: Stitch along the upper edge of the upper flounce with loosely tensioned stitches. Gather the edge to the length of the lower edge of the back skirt yoke, distributing the gathers evenly. Attach the upper flounce to the yoke. Press the seam upwards and overlock.
