Tech. Description

Cotton Stretch Jersey Stand Collar Sleeveless Top

A women's sleeveless top for knit fabric, close to the body and hip length, with a folded stand-up collar and turned-and-topstitched armholes. Three pieces: front, back and collar.

When To Wear

  • On its own in summer, with skirts or trousers.
  • Under a jacket, cardigan or pinafore in cooler weather.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close to the body, following the figure through the side seams.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Collar: A single collar piece sewn into a ring, folded in half wrong sides together and sewn to the neckline at the notches. The collar seam sits at the left shoulder seam. The collar has no opening, so it must fit over the head: check this before sewing.

Sleeves: Sleeveless. The armhole edges are overlocked, turned to the wrong side and topstitched, with no facing or binding.

Front: One piece, no seams or darts.

Back: One piece.

Finishing: Seams sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch, overlocked and trimmed to 0.6–0.8 cm; shoulder and side seams pressed towards the back. Hem turned to the wrong side and topstitched with a twin needle.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Three pieces, a folded collar band and turned-and-topstitched armholes and hem in knit fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium to high stretch, made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Twin needle for topstitching the hem

Cutting Plan

  • 1. Back – 1 piece
  • 2. Front – 1 piece
  • 3. Collar – 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

Attention! Before you begin, check that your head fits through the collar once it's stitched into a loop.

Tip: When sewing knit fabrics, use a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch.

When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.6 – 0.8 cm.

Topstitch the hem allowance with a twin needle to maintain elasticity.

  1. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the back and front. Serge the seams and press them towards the back.
  2. Serge the bottom edge of the garment and the armhole edge. Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
  3. Stitch the collar into a loop. Turn the collar right side out and press. Fold the collar in half, wrong sides together. Attach the collar to the neckline, aligning the notches. The collar seam should be positioned at the left shoulder seam. Serge and press the collar attachment seam.
