Tech. Description

Round Neck Top with Sleeve Options

A women's hip-length top for knit fabric with a round neckline and set-in sleeves in three lengths: short, three-quarter or long. Made from just a front, a back and two sleeves, with all edges turned and topstitched. The photos show one sleeve length. The pattern has one full-length sleeve; for a short or three-quarter sleeve, shorten it to the length you want.

When To Wear

  • Short sleeves in summer, on their own with jeans, trousers or skirts.
  • Three-quarter and long sleeves in spring and autumn, or under a jacket or cardigan.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Semi-fitted, following the body through the side seams.

Length: Hip length, straight hem.

Neckline: Round, high at the base of the neck; the edge is finished, turned to the wrong side and topstitched, with no band or facing.

Sleeves: One-piece set-in sleeves; choose short, three-quarter or long. The long sleeve narrows towards the wrist.

Front: One piece, no darts or seams.

Back: One piece.

Finishing: Seams sewn with a stretch or narrow zigzag stitch, overlocked and trimmed to 0.6–0.8 cm. Hem, sleeve hems and neckline turned under and topstitched with a twin needle so they keep their stretch.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Four pieces, shoulder and side seams, set-in sleeves and turned-and-topstitched edges; the only extra skill is handling knit fabric.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabric with medium to high stretch, made from natural or blended fibres.

Additional Supplies

  • Twin needle for topstitching the hems and neckline

Cutting Plan

From main fabric:

  • Back – 1 piece
  • Front – 1 piece
  • Sleeve – 2 pieces

Fabric & Materials

Pattern pieces made from knit fabrics should be sewn with a special elastic or narrow zigzag stitch. When serging, trim seam allowances to 0.6 – 0.8 cm. The hem allowance should be topstitched with a twin needle to maintain elasticity.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the shoulder and side seams of the back and front. Serge the seams and press them towards the back.
  2. Stitch the sleeve seams. Serge the seams and press.
  3. Set the sleeves into the armholes, matching notches. Serge the seams and press.
  4. Serge the bottom edge of the garment, the bottom edge of the sleeves, and the neckline edge. Fold to the wrong side, press, and topstitch.
