Tech. Description

Flutter Sleeve V-Neck Top

A women's hip-length top with a structured, lined bodice: seamed bust cups on narrow straps, a shaped front inset and a back yoke with a band. A separate upper front and upper back with flutter sleeves lie over the bodice and form a deep V-neck at the front and a scoop at the back. Invisible zip in the left side seam.

When To Wear

  • Summer occasions: daytime parties, weddings as a guest, dinners out.
  • With a straight or flared skirt, or with fitted trousers.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Fitted through the bust and under the bust, the lower part widening slightly to the hem.

Length: Hip length; hem overlocked, turned up and topstitched 0.5 cm from the edge.

Neckline: Deep V at the front and a wide scoop at the back, both formed by the upper front and upper back. The neckline edges are bound with bias binding folded in half; the armhole edges are overlocked, turned and topstitched 0.8 cm.

Sleeves: Short flutter sleeves cut in one with the upper front and upper back, which meet at the shoulder seam. In the drawing this layer is see-through, with the cups and straps visible underneath.

Front: Bust cups of an inner and an outer cup with a side part, all interfaced and lined. Straps made from folded strips are sewn to the cups; their length is set at the fitting. A shaped front inset runs between and below the cups, dipping to a point at the centre. The lower front has an inverted box pleat at the centre.

Back: The upper back lies over a lined back yoke, followed by a lined back inset band; the lower back is lightly gathered into the band.

Closure: Invisible zip in the left side seam, with the lining attached to the zip tape.

Lining: Cups, side parts, front inset, back yoke and back inset are lined; the lower edge of the lining is topstitched into the bodice seam. The main fabric can be used for the lining.

Level Of Difficulty

Advanced. Interfaced, lined bust cups, an overlay layer caught into the bodice seams, straps adjusted at the fitting, an inverted pleat, gathers and an invisible zip.

Fabric Recommendations

Woven fabric of natural or blended fibres; lining of natural or blended fibres, or the main fabric.

Additional Supplies

  • Lining fabric (natural or blended fibres)
  • Fusible interfacing (inner cups, outer cups, side parts)
  • Invisible zip for the left side seam
  • Bias binding for the neckline

Cutting Plan

If the patterns have a double contour, seam allowances are included. If the contour is single, seam allowances are not included. Seam allowances: all seams 1 cm. Attention! First, print out the paper patterns and lay them out on the fabric width (fabric width can be from 90 cm to 150 cm) to determine how much material you will need. When stitching pieces, pay attention to the notches - they must match!
