Additional Supplies

  • Fusible interfacing (flaps)
  • Decorative cord
  • 2 buttons for the flaps (shown on the drawing, not in the supplies list)

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
    1. Front Half – 2 pieces
    2. Back Half – 2 pieces
    3. Flap – 4 pieces
    4. Belt-Loop – 1 piece (one strip, cut into loops after sewing)
  • From fusible interfacing: Flap.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse interfacing to the flaps.
  2. Place the flap pieces right sides together and stitch around. Trim the seam allowances at the corners and turn right side out. Topstitch around the outer edge of the flaps 0.5 cm from the edge. Overlock the upper edge of the flap. Mark the flap position on the front half. Place the flap on the marking and stitch it on. Turn the flap down to the right side and topstitch 0.5 cm from the seam.
  3. Overlock the side and inseam edges of the front and back halves, the center front edge, the fly extension edge, and the center back edge.
  4. Fold the belt-loop strip in half lengthwise, right sides together, align the edges and stitch 0.5-0.7 cm from the edges. Turn it right side out, placing the seam on the fold or forming a 0.1–0.2 cm piping on the inside, and press.
  5. Stitch the side seams and inseams and press them open. Stitch the fly extension edges together and stitch the center back (seat) seam.
  6. Overlock the upper edge of the shorts. Press the 2 cm upper allowance to the wrong side and topstitch it to the shorts. Mark the belt loop positions. Cut the strip into loops and topstitch them onto the shorts at the marks.
  7. Overlock the hem allowance and press it to the wrong side. Topstitch the hem. Thread the decorative cord through the belt loops.
