Tech. Description

Wrap Front Top with Shoulder Ties

A women's sleeveless top for knit fabric with a crossover front: two drapes, gathered at the shoulders, wrap over the bust and form the V-neckline. Ties are sewn into the shoulder seams.

When To Wear

  • In summer with skirts, shorts or trousers.
  • Tucked in or worn loose over a high-waisted skirt.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: Close-fitting knit top, hip length.

Neckline: Wrap V-neckline. The drapes face the neckline edges of the left and right fronts; the left front is set into the right front up to the notches.

Front: Separate left and right fronts, each with its own drape. The drapes are gathered at the shoulder edge and pleated at the side seam, so the folds run diagonally across the front.

Sleeves: Sleeveless; armholes overlocked, turned and topstitched. A tie is sewn into each gathered shoulder seam and tied in a bow.

Back: One piece, neckline turned and topstitched.

Finishing: Edges overlocked, turned and topstitched; for a stretchy hem, use a twin needle. Seams sewn with a narrow zigzag or stretch stitch.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Few pieces, no closures; the main work is gathering and pleating the drapes and sewing knit with stretch stitches.

Fabric Recommendations

Knit fabrics of any fibre content.

Additional Supplies

  • None besides fabric and thread.

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Left front - 1 piece
  • Right front – 1 piece
  • Left drape – 1 piece
  • Right drape – 1 piece
  • Back - 1 piece

Sewing Instructions

Tip: To ensure the material remains stretchy in the areas of finished seams, stitch the cut pieces with a narrow zigzag or special stretch stitch. To keep the bottom edge stretchy, overlock the hem with an overlock stitch, then stitch it using a twin needle. The same applies to finishing other edges of the garment that should not lose elasticity. These recommendations do not apply to industrial production.

  1. Overlock, fold, and topstitch the outer edges of the drapes.
  2. Gather the pleats on the shoulder edges of the drapes.
  3. Face the neckline of the left front with the drape.
  4. Face the right front with the drape, inserting the left front to the notches.
  5. Overlock, fold, and topstitch the armhole seam allowances on the front and back.
  6. Overlock, fold, and topstitch the back neckline seam allowances.
  7. Stitch the shoulder seams.
  8. Overlock, fold, and topstitch the shoulder seam allowances of the drapes.
  9. Create folds on the side edge of the drape. Stitch the side seams.
  10. Overlock, fold, and topstitch the bottom of the top.
  11. Turn under the ends of the ties. Fold the ties lengthwise and stitch 0.7 cm from the fold. Turn the ties right side out and press. Close the ends. Attach the ties to the shoulder seams.
