High Waist Gathered Swim Briefs

Women's high-waisted briefs with high-cut legs and gathered side inserts on elastic. The front and back are each cut in one piece on the fold and lined with batiste.

When To Wear

In summer with a matching bra top or halter top.
As part of a silk lingerie or loungewear set.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: High-waisted brief with full back coverage.

Front: One piece cut on the fold, joined to the back by a seam at the crotch.

Back: One piece cut on the fold, no centre back seam.

Waist: The upper edge is faced with the lining, turned through, basted and topstitched.

Finishing: At each side, the front and back are joined by a narrow insert: a fabric tube with the seam pressed to the middle, stitched into casings, with elastic threaded through and the fabric gathered on it. The leg openings are faced with the lining, topstitched, and then finished with elastic stitched on with a zigzag stitch while slightly stretched.

Lining: Front and back fully lined with batiste.

From main fabric:

Sewing Instructions

Stitch the bottom seam on the main fabric and batiste pieces. Fold the pieces right sides together and face the upper edges and leg openings. Turn the briefs right side out, baste, and topstitch.
Fold the inserts lengthwise in half, right sides together, and stitch the long sides. Turn the inserts right side out and press so that the seam is in the middle of the insert. Stitch decorative lines to form casings, insert elastic trim strip, and gather the fabric onto it. Secure the trim strip and stitch the inserts to the front and back of the briefs.
Fold the elastic trim strip with the leg opening and, stretching slightly, stitch with a zigzag stitch.
