Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:

  • From lining:
  • Back – 2 pieces
  • Front – 1 piece (cut on fold)
  • From fusible interfacing: 2 cm wide strips to interface the neckline and armholes of the lining Back and Front.

Sewing Instructions

  1. Interface the neckline and armholes of the lining Back and Front with 2 cm wide fusible strips (fusible interfacing is pressed onto the wrong side of the piece with a hot iron).
  2. Stitch the center back seam from the zipper mark to the hem. Finish and press open the seam allowances, press the edges of the zipper opening.
  3. Stitch the darts on the Back and Front. Press the waist darts towards the center and the bust darts downwards.
  4. Baste the zipper in so that the teeth are not visible, and stitch 0.5 cm from the edge.
  5. Stitch the shoulder seams, finish and press open the seam allowances.
  6. Assemble the lining pieces in the same way as the main pieces. Place the lining and the dress right sides together and stitch along the neckline and armhole edges. Turn the top of the dress right side out by pulling the back halves through the shoulders to the front. In one continuous seam, stitch the side seams of the dress and lining. Turn the neckline and armhole seam allowances towards the lining and understitch the lining to the allowances close to the seam.
  7. Hem the dress and the lining with a turned-up hem; the lining should be 2 cm shorter than the dress.
