Sewing Instructions

  1. Fuse FUSIBLE INTERFACING to neck FACINGS. (Heat-activated interfacings are pressed onto the wrong side of the piece with a hot iron).
  2. Stitch the center back seam from the ZIPPER NOTCH to the hem. Overlock and press open the SEAM ALLOWANCES, press the edges of the opening for the ZIPPER.
  3. On the BACK PANEL and FRONT PANEL, stitch darts and princess seams. Press darts towards the center, and princess seams towards the side seams.
  4. Stitch the side and shoulder seams, overlock and press open the SEAM ALLOWANCES.
  5. Baste the ZIPPER so that the teeth are not visible, and stitch at a distance of 0.5 cm.
  6. Stitch the BACK NECK FACINGS to the FRONT NECK FACING, overlock the outer edge. Place the FACINGS with the main piece right sides together and stitch along the neckline. Turn the FACING to the wrong side, baste, and press. Fold under the FACING edges near the ZIPPER and hand stitch. Topstitch along the neckline.
  7. Stitch the SLEEVE seams. Overlock and press open the SEAM ALLOWANCES. Press the SLEEVE hem allowances to the wrong side, fold the edges inwards, and topstitch.
  8. Set in the SLEEVES. Ease each SLEEVE cap between the NOTCHES. To do this, along both sides of the marked SLEEVE setting seam line, stitch a machine basting stitch with a large stitch, slightly gathering the fabric on the bobbin thread. Fold the SLEEVE with the dress right sides together and pin into the armhole, initially only in its lower part, aligning the SLEEVE seam with the side seam and the transverse NOTCHES on the FRONT PANEL and SLEEVE. Do not ease either the armhole or the SLEEVE at this point! Pin the SLEEVE above the dress shoulder seam, aligning the transverse NOTCH on the SLEEVE cap with the seam. Then pin the SLEEVE into the upper part of the armhole, easing it slightly and evenly. Baste and stitch the SLEEVE from the SLEEVE side, starting the stitch at the SLEEVE seam. Overlock the SEAM ALLOWANCES together. In the area of the SLEEVE cap, press the SEAM ALLOWANCES towards the SLEEVE.
  9. Press the dress hem allowance to the wrong side, fold inwards, and topstitch.
