Utility Wrap Skirt with Patch Pocket
A women's above-knee A-line skirt with a buttoned wrap front, one large patch pocket with tucks and a buttoned flap on the side, a faced waist without a waistband and six belt loops.
When To Wear
- Everyday wear in spring and autumn, with a T-shirt, sweatshirt or shirt and flat shoes.
- With tights and boots in cooler weather; the belt loops take a belt.
Key Design Features
Silhouette: Slightly flared A-line, shaped with darts at the front and back.
Length: Above the knee; hem turned up and topstitched.
Front: An upper front skirt wraps over a lower front skirt and fastens with three buttons along the opening edge; the opening edge is turned under and topstitched.
Pockets: One patch pocket on the right side with tucks folded as marked and topstitched 3 mm from the folds; the sides are stitched down without catching the tucks. The flap is interfaced, topstitched along the edge and 5 mm from it, attached above the pocket, turned down, double-topstitched and closed with one button.
Back: One piece cut on the fold, with darts.
Waist: No waistband. The upper edge is finished with interfaced front and back facings and edge-stitched from the right side. Six belt loops sit in line with the front and back darts and on the side seams.
Level Of Difficulty

Sewing Instructions
- Reinforce the facings and one flap piece with fusible interfacing. (Heat-activated interfacings are pressed onto the wrong side of the piece with a hot iron).
- Stitch darts and side seams.
- Place the flap pieces right sides together, stitch along the outer edges, turn right side out, press, and topstitch along the edge and 5 mm from the edge. Fold the pleat on the pocket as marked, press, and topstitch 3 mm from the folds. Press the top hem of the pocket inwards, turn under the edge, and stitch along the edge.
- Press the outer edges of the pocket inwards, place the pocket on the main garment according to markings and topstitch - first the side edges of the pocket without catching the pleat, then the bottom edge. Place the flap, pointing upwards, on the right side of the skirt and stitch. Turn the flap downwards, press, and topstitch with a double stitch.
- Stitch the side seams of the upper front facing, lower front facing and back facing. Place the facings on the skirt right sides together and stitch. Turn the facings to the inside, baste along the edge and press. From the right side of the garment, sew a decorative topstitch along the top edge of the skirt.
- Press the allowances along the wrap opening edge and the hem to the wrong side, turn under, and topstitch.
- Fold the belt-loop strip in half lengthwise, right sides together, stitch along the long edges, turn right side out, press, and topstitch. Cut the strip into six belt loops. Turn under the raw edges and stitch the belt loops to the top of the skirt in line with the darts of the front skirts and back skirt, and at the side seams.
- Make buttonholes according to markings. Sew buttons in corresponding places.
