Tech. Description

A-Line Mini Wrap Skirt

A women's A-line mini skirt with a wrap front, cut-on facings on both front panels and no waistband. Fully lined, fastened with buttons in the upper corners of the front panels plus one decorative button.

When To Wear

  • For the office or daytime in spring and autumn, with a blouse or a fine knit top.
  • With tights and ankle boots in cooler weather.

Key Design Features

Silhouette: A-line, without darts; two front panels and a back cut on the fold.

Length: Mini.

Front: The two front panels overlap. Each has a facing cut in one with it, interfaced and sewn down at the hem. A buttonhole is made in the upper corner of each front panel; a third button is sewn on as decoration at the marking.

Waist: No waistband. The upper edge is reinforced with a strip of fusible interfacing about 5 cm wide cut to its shape and finished by stitching the lining to it.

Lining: Full lining cut from the skirt pieces minus the facing width, stitched to the facing edges and hemmed 2 cm shorter than the skirt.

Level Of Difficulty

Beginner. Only two pattern pieces and no zipper. The steps that need care are attaching the lining to the cut-on facings and the upper edge, and making two buttonholes.

Fabric Recommendations

Light wool or blended fabrics, such as crepe, gabardine or papillon; the sample is made in wool crepe.

Additional Supplies

  • Lining fabric
  • Fusible interfacing (front facings and 5 cm strips along the upper edges)
  • 3 buttons

Cutter's Must

  • From main fabric:
  • Front Skirt - 2 pieces
  • Back Skirt - 1 piece on fold
  • From lining fabric: cut the Front Skirt pieces minus the width of the all-in-one facings, and the Back Skirt (on fold).
  • From fusible interfacing: reinforce the all-in-one facings of the front skirts with interfacing. Additionally, press a strip of interfacing approximately 5 cm wide along the upper edges of the skirt pieces (cut the strips to match the shape of the edges).

Sewing Instructions

  1. Stitch the side seams on the skirt and on the skirt lining.
  2. Fold the all-in-one facings of the front skirts to the right side, stitch the lining to the edges of the facings, leaving open sections approximately 10 cm long at the bottom.
  3. Pin the upper edges of the skirt and lining together and stitch. Turn the lining and facings to the wrong side.
  4. Hem the skirt. At the bottom of the lining, create a hem so that the lining is 2 cm shorter than the skirt. Stitch the remaining open sections of the lining seam. Sew the facings to the bottom edge of the skirt.
  5. In the upper corner of each front skirt, make a buttonhole as marked. Sew on the buttons at the matching places. Sew the third button according to the marking as a decorative element.
